elevated B12, in the absence of supplementation, can be a marker for kidney and liver problems - this can be checked using blood tests that look at liver and kidney function.
I know it is difficult but all you can really do now is follow up with the GP and try to get to the bottom of what is going on and take care of both yourself and your son - try do do some things you enjoy rather than worrying about what ifs.
Elevated B12 is an early sign of liver and kidney problems so if it is one of those that should increase the prognosis.
My B12 has always been around the 900-1100 mark even without supplementing. I don’t have any kidney or liver issues. My GP has tested for these on several occasions. I was given a B12 shot once by a functional medicine practitioner and it made no difference to me.
I once asked about this on the Pernicious Anaemia forum but nobody had any idea. It may well be elevated at the serum blood level as others have said because the body isn’t absorbing it. Hope your son feels better soon.
there is very little in the sources about excess b12 and why that is. one thing i am afraid my gp wouldn't pass the proper tests because i had already asked him to do some research but according to gp there is no need and we did the test in a private hospital and they're back with these results,so,on Monday I'll be going to my gp to discuss about this and my expectation is to find out the all possible reasons to ensure that there is nothing about to worry.
My son had already bad childhood. He feels always tired and sometimes dizzy.
25 ( OH) vitamin D is 62 nmol/L, it looks that is in line of the level ,so,what do you think?
I can't understand those iron results ;( propably will explain next week.. have you any idea? This morning my child was feeling very dizzy and after that he got sick.
Contact the laboratory and ask them what the appropriate ranges are for his age. You can usually find a number on the hospital website or just ring the switchboard and ask.
Im not sure, but kids have different reference ranges than adults. Please ask a good doctor. I do know that the reference ranges for adults are much too low. Japan and Korea have already corrected theirs. Ie. Sufficient amounts for B12 start at 650! With all the biochemistry studies exploding with news, there are many changes. Unfortunately, it’ll take 20 years before that all gets to the doctors offices.
my experience is that every doctor thinks differently. one said that B12 test need to be monitored and the other argued that he don't see any trouble, so,I would require a third opinion. I think if twice in a year the level will be checked up and won't be any changes and other blood tests will be normal then propably this can be defined as a normal for my son case.
Checking vitamins is important depending on what your son has. If he has a leaky gut, he will be B12 deficient no matter what. This can lead to cognitive decline (especially in adults). Please check that. We are off all grains except rice and milk products and my daughter’s body and brain are healing fast. She is a new person. My father died with B12 dementia. It started in his early 60s. At that time, almost no one knew about the leaky gut problem. His upper belly was always swollen and he had irregular stool.
I cannot tell you how fast science is changing. The biochemistry field is exploding with information about how our bodies are working on a nano cellular level. Most doctors have no idea, unless they are really up to date and open to the changes. Unfortunately most aren’t. I personally have 1300 pages of notes on health and am able to help myself and my family. I invested €2000 to hop around from do tor to doctor to find the ones that could answer my mountain of questions. I have formed a team with them and my family and friends are getting very healthy. We are living for our health, in a way that we will prevent illnesses in the future. The first step to health is information from good trusted sources and them we are empowered to find the doctors that have knowledge and vision. We have to take control of our own health. I cannot even start to count how many times I or my family have been treated with wrong medications or have been given false diagnosis.
Cheers and good luck! Keep searching, you’ll get there. Anag.
