I don’t have any advice for you, bit I definitely feel more tired days leading up to it. Can’t get out of bed in the morning and have insomnia at night. Those are my hypo symptoms and I get them before my period even when I’m optimal.

Im thinking theres a link between thyroid and female hormones as we get older they get lower i think its called estrogen dominant not sure..since therr all hormones

Definitely. Having too little sex hormones can also be detrimental. I don’t think I’m estrogen dominant. I have very low DHEA levels. The rest, I need to test for but i think I’m B12 deficient and need to test for that too. So I’m fixing one thing at a time.

I think I’m doing better as a whole now. I have noticed when I was hypothyroid, my premenstrual symptoms were way worse. Extreme irritability, hot flashes, and very very heavy flow when Aunt Flo did come for a visit. I am only supplementing with iron during my cycles because I had a bout of iron overload. The rest of the time, I take b12 and vitamin d3.

I have the same experience, I feel that my symptoms definitely change over my menstrual cycle.

I've bought a medichecks female hormone test kit, but not yet done it.

I'm not diagnosed with hashimoto, but my medichecks tests indicate that. (but have been hypo and hyper). And have been diagnosed with other autoimmune disorder. Again, symptoms worsening before cycle.

So may be autoimmune/hormone link. I don't know yet, still trying to work through my tests, research and work it out.

There are definitely links between oestrogen/progesterone/menstrual cycle/menopause and thyroid. I don’t know much myself about the links between menopause and thyroid, however, there’s plenty to suggest that thyroid levels fluctuate through the course of the menstrual cycle.

There’s a paper here which suggests that TSH is higher (ie. you’re likely to require more thyroid hormone) in mid-cycle/ovulation and lower during menstruation.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

It’s not the best and most thorough research but fits with what’s known about oestrogen levels and thyroid hormone: that higher oestrogen levels limit the uptake of thyroid hormone. So, with oestrogen being highest during ovulation, it follows that TSH would be higher at this point.

I’m not sure all of that fits other what you’re experiencing but there are plenty of other factors that would impact oestrogen levels - hormonal birth control causing oestrogen dominance, an imbalance of oestrogen/progestogen/testosterone etc. Having these tested might give you some more insight.

Thanks for the info hjh88 it sounds like thats the problem going on...us women have to deal with hormones!im not on birth control and im guessing im not optimal on my thyroid since i been changing back and forth on thyroid brands for the past 2 months since np thyroid went bad ive had this issue before but not as bad as this time i also believe im pre menopause im going to go see my ob gyn next week hoping she has something to say that helps..im sure she will say im hyperthyroid since my tsh has always been supressed ugh...i get so mad when they say that

Hi, before I was treated for hypo I had same, dreadful leading up to period, then once bleeding started it was like a cloud lifted. I believe everything is worse when you are under treated, obviously when your body is not functioning properly every illness is going to be harder to cope with. Most important get your levels tested and you will probably see you need a dose increase. I wish you well.

Possible zink 30 mg can help to regulate your inflammatory response

Try low sugar and gluten free diet maybe it can donate good deal for you

Also test your iron take some good b12 and magnesium

It sounds like your adrenals are low

You can try klaire labs company so you get real stuff not rubbish

Hope this helps

Let me know if you need any more guidance

I had the symptoms you have described, especially the itchiness before a period. I had it for years before my hypothyroidism diagnosis and when my thyroid was normal. It continued after I started levo. My hormone tests didn’t show any issues. I turn 50 this year, so in December, I asked my GP to start me on a trial of HRT ( in spite of my hormone tests being ‘normal’) and even though I still have regular periods (even after an endometrial ablation!)

Finally, I have relief. The best thing I have ever done!

Sorry for not replying earlier, I tend to come in here irregularly. I still have periods but just don’t have those symptoms any longer. I hope that helps xx

Oestrogen raises levels of thyroxine binding globulin in the blood so it’s not as freely useable. Same with soy which mimics the effects of oestrogen.
