If 15mg of crab has brought you down to those results then I think it will probably continue to have a lowering effect . After my initial spell on a high dose carb was regularly lowered until I was at 5mg and this maintained me at a within range level for many years.

So do u think I will b ok on that dose then until I see them in three weeks , just scared of going under , but I no I started on a low dose anyway so prob why doctors said it’s fine to carry on with that dose ,

Who knows what under is. Everybody is different. Your body might like ft4 to be near 12 in which case you have a fair way to go yet. The range 12 - 22 are just numbers and you need to find your own wellness level somewhere in there. I started at 40mg.

The hospital usually like you to stay on same dose for three months it give a them a better idea of how it’s working for you, I tend to listen to my body as over time could tell if I was taking too much or too little. Think about how you were feeling before and how you are feeling now. I have felt that the hospital has generally tried to over prescribe me with carbimazole. Learn to trust yourself and how you feel if you can. We are all very different.

Hi. I became underactive after 4 weeks on carb (can’t remember dose but it was the maximum for Graves as I was very over). I didn’t actually feel ill being underactive (I had felt very ill when overactive) and I very easily went back into normal range once the dose was tweaked. If you do go underactive then hopefully it will be sorted as easily as it was for me. Best wishes.

My normal result in sept, Oct, was Tish, 0.70, t4, 20.2, so I’m heading for them as think I was well . So I surpose I do have room on low dose, it’s all so confusing

Hi Ponk it is a long time now since l was on carbimazole but my T4 was 30 and l was quite ill. I don’t remember the dose that l was on but l was told l could only stay on it for a maximum of 2yrs. In the end l was given radio active iodine to kill off part of my thyroid and now l am under active. I don’t understand you saying you don’t want to go under!!?? Do you mean T4? If that’s the case you have a very long way to go before you go under the minimum of the range. 4 weeks between blood tests seems too soon to me but if the results are dropping then that is a good sign. I would continue as you are and try not to worry too much. Yvonne

Thank you all , I no Im a worrier , I’m sitting in a&e now done bloods cause had a sore throat can’t cope . I am defo better in myself to how I was 4 weeks ago so I do say the Carbimazole is working and my test was looking better so hopefully next ones shall do , I’m praying

Hi . I live in Australia. I was on 5mg 3 times a day and had regular tests. Initial range was suppose to be 10 and 20 and I was 79. It kept dropping and I started feeling a lot better and reduced it to twice a day about month before I went for next test and the next time I had a test it was 8 slightly under so the doctor said to stop taking it and I have been ok ever since. I eat basil every day and make basil tea. It is very good for your thyroid.

The best advice I can give you is do not make any sudden changes to your carbimazole dosage and be very patient. When you are advised to decrease your dose do it in tiny increments - invest in a pill cutter. I decreased by a quarter of a 5mg tablet at a time over long periods. When I got down to 0.25 and couldn't go any lower I took it every other day for months and then went down to every third day. It took a long time but it avoids the see-saw affect between hyper and hypo.

Good luck! And don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

Hi thanks for replying , I’m not on it now as had a sore throat and ended up in hospital these past few days as had a infection due from the Carbimazole something to do with the red and white cells, so had to stop not sure now what I’m got to do as they said my levels were ok and to see them in a week . Abit confused at the min
