Around two weeks ago, I asked for views and opinions on my diagnosis for an overactive thyroid and I was very grateful for the advice given. My Endocrinologist has now referred me to the Royal Marsden for further consultation, blood tests and a nuclear medicine scan of my thyroid which is scheduled for later this month. Then in January, I return to Marsden to get the results and agree any further treatment. The information I gained here enabled me to ask questions which otherwise would not have happened so thanks to all of you for your help. I will let you know the outcome in the new year, hope you all have a great Christmas........

Good to hear
Make sure to always get copies of all blood test results
Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn't been tested yet
You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results
UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
Thank you, I have online access to all tests......
In view of the AF, please have the TSH receptor autoantibodies (TRAb) test done to rule out or confirm Graves.
Wishing you Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year : )
Merry Christmas to you as well, FlapJack. Glad you will have more answers soon.
Have you had an ultrasound of you thyroid?
Just add I have never had one of these scans and I would not want one. I had a neck x-ray before I became very ill with my thyroid again 3 years ago and I am convinced that set off my attack. I have suffered with Graves' for 12 years now and my original Consultant Endocrinologist told me it was that or an under-active thyroid he could not say which and he is a bloody expert. He then overdosed me on PTU and had a TSH of 9 which he said was ok and I probably needed to see a counsellor for my imaginary illness. My hair was dropping out and my nails were lifting off their beds and I could hardly get out of bed ... some kind of imaginary illness eh?? I walked out of his clinic never to return and he was supposed to be an expert on thyroid disease? I have had two ultrasounds and I have a multi-nodular goitre and Graves' Disease as confirmed by a consultant who did the ultrasound on my neck. She told me it definitely was not Hashimoto's because she has scanned 100s and mine doesn't not remotely look like one. I hope you don't decide to destroy your thyroid because you can go into remission and I am now on my second one and my TSH is 0.70 and I feel great. I still have high antibodies which are 4000 and my CRP is over 9 which means inflammation which I am trying lower by taking vitamin D and selenium & zinc tablets. After Christmas I will have a medicheck test to see what is happening with my thyroid.
Sorry to hear about your experiences. I have a heart condition which has prompted the investigation therefore I have to put my faith in the Royal Marsden in the hope that the know what they are doing regarding my condition.......unfortunately, there will be some folk with bad experiences, but there must also be thousands who are treated successfully......life can be a lottery sometimes!
