Lichen sclerosis & thyroid?

Morning all, I’ve been taking Thyroxine for a couple of years now (75mg). I’ve been unwell and docs have said I have Lichen sclerosis in my genital area. It’s horrifically uncomfortable and makes me feel so unwell. I believe this is another auto immune illness and wondered if anyone else has experienced this along with thyroid issues?

Just had more bloods done to see what’s going on with my thyroid. Thanks in advance for any information x

Hi Denise, Unfortunately I also have both. There is divided opinion, but the consultant I saw was definitely of the view that LS is an autoimmune condition and was not surprised that I had Hashimoto's. What treatment have you been prescribed? I used a steroid cream under instruction from a gynecologist for a couple of months, reducing in frequency. Now use sparingly no more than once a week at most. There is no getting away from the fact that it is a horrible condition with no magic cure. I found that using a lubricant from YesYesYes very helpful, but it is trial and error. I also started taking a goat milk kefir, to help with gut problems associated with Hashimoto's, but as a consequence believe it has also helped the LS. Can really recommend the company Chuckling Goat.

Hi Lisa, thanks for your reply. I’ve been given the cream which I started yesterday but just in so much pain. Did you have stomach pain with yours? The doctor thinks it’s two different things for me - just hope it’s not yet another autoimmune disease! Will have a look at Chuckling Goat thanks Lisa x

i wouldn't say stomach pain, just a real discomfort in that area, the itching drove me to distraction !! Fingers crossed it's not LS, though would still recommend the goats milk kefir, read the reviews.

I don’t have LS, but close family member does and recommends applying extra virgin olive oil as a lubricant during flair ups. She has had better results from this natural option than steroids.

Hi Denise - yes they are both autoimmune conditions and I have both, it is uncomfortable and stresses me out. When it’s bad I apply steroid cream and it settles down for a while. Other than that I’m not sure what would help. 🥴

I have just been diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis and agree it is very painful 😖 Doctor has prescribed steroid cream. I haven’t experienced any abdominal pain just sore and occasional itch,

been applying sudo creme for this which has helped.

I have just completed 6 cycles of chemotherapy due to Ovarian Cancer, my doctor said I have developed LS due to a low immune system from the chemo.
