Tiromel Dosing Query

Hey! I found out today I have the DIO2 gene thingy so am planning on trying Tiromel within the next couple of months once I’ve sourced some. I’m on 125mcg of levothyroxcine at the moment. Just wondering what sort of dose I should go with when I get the Tiromel? Thanks to everyone on here. Without the support of this forum I wouldn’t have ordered that test!

I've just email to arrange the phone call to discuss. Do you get anything in writing please

Yeh! They give you a call and then they send you an email. I didn’t really understand the content but it did state decreases ability to produce T3 and I had the heter gene rather than the other one which means you got it from both parents. I am not convinced NHS endo will recognise this test but I’ll try to get an appointment anyway just to go through the motions. But this test has confirmed my suspicion so I’m feeling less afraid of going it alone now!

Thanks. That's very interesting. Was hoping there would be written not just verbal as proof

It's usual to start by reducing the levo by 25 mcg and adding in 5 mcg T3. Then, increase by 5 mcg T3 every two weeks until you reach 20 mcg. Then hold for six weeks and retested.

Of course, whether or not your need to reduce your levo depends on your FT4 level. If it's top of the range/over-range, reduce. If it's lower then don't reduce. :)

Thanks greygoose! I think I can just about handle the numbers involved in that and figure this out as I go from that starting point. Exciting times ahead 😀

I don’t think I’ll be reducing my levo by the looks as last test it was 18.8 (end of range is 22), so I’m in the upper part.
