After a blood test showing up low B12 and folate, I’m taking 5mg folic acid and 1000mcg Jarrows sublingual a day. I’ve been on these for three weeks and have broken out in acne on my face, chest and top of one of my arms. I’m just wondering if a lower dose of b12 would increase my levels without so much acne? It’s making me very self conscious! I was thinking of a high dose b complex?
Thank you!

As the members of the PA forum are more expert on B12 issues than the thyroid forum members, I would have another read of the replies you had on the PA forum which explained that a lower dose of B12 can be as effective as a high dose
You may not be able to use the folic acid, which, after all is a man made copy of folate. Why dont you have a look at buying some methyl folate instead? I use jarrows. Low folate levels can give you high insulin resistance and low insulin output.
What level is your ferritin? Low ferritin is linked ti hair loss. If you cant absob b vits, maybe you not absorbing other vits and minerals. Not taking acid suppressants are you?
My ferritin level is 108. I’ve always taken ferrous gluconate. I’m fine on the folic acid, I just can’t deal with this acne. Is there no way a lower dose B12 tablet will raise my levels? I’m really struggling!
So what are your folate levels now? A lower b12 should raise levels, only very slowly. According to this website you might now need biotin..... b12-vitamin.com/acne/
I get acne in association with taking Vitamin B12 (I take methylcobalamin). I have found that if I keep up taking the B12 the acne will eventually go away. When it does my skin ends up looking better than it does without the B12.
So, be patient. It took about three months for me, but the end results were worth it.
