Hi everyone I began feeling unwell last Wednesday 2nd October. Really light headed unsteady on my feet feeling queasy, I'm getting confused easily and sometimes I stutter or dont get my words out right when explaining something I'm getting muscle aches and the random shootingoain in random parts of my body . I can barely move without it flaring up. I just feel queasy all the time and get headaches on and off. So I phoned NHS direct on the 5th October they sent me to a and e. While there I was examined and prescribed 3 days of stemitel to treat vertigo. I was taking 3 a day I think they were 5mg. When taking them the symptoms I must admit did ease but was still there. I'm also taking 50mg a day of carbimizole for hyperthyroidism. Anyway 9 days later I'm still getting the same symptoms I'm fed up of feeling rubbish it's bad enough having the symptoms for my thyroid. Although my levels are now normal. I still get thyroid symptoms. Anyway my question is could this be more than vertigo surly my symptoms should of gone by now?

Same thing with me. Felt really dizzy at end of August so I saw a doctor who prescribed Stimitol, I had been taking a mixture of antihistamine and travel sickness pills but I was worried about feeling awful after a ferry crossing to France. Have to say I read the PIL for the Stimatol and decided to carry on with what I was taking. Eventually the dizziness went away.

For the last three days I’ve been feeling dizzy again so this morning I went back on the travel sick pills.

I’m sure it is something to do with my middle ear because my ear feels odd, not quite blocked but full and different to my other ear but I don’t know. The doctor I saw was a locum and to be honest she didn’t even try to look interested, I came out thinking she was getting money for old rope.

I was taking 40 mcg carbimazole when my Graves was being treated and never had any problems with dizziness - does the patient information leaflet with your carb mention feeling dizzy?

Like you I’d like to know more but in my case I just can’t face making the effort trying to get past the receptionist to make an appointment then getting someone who isn’t interested.

I’ve got a feeling vertigo or labyrinthitis can hang around for quite a while but if you are worried or if you feel your hearing is being affected I’d go back the doctor and speak to someone.

I've been taking 50mg of carbimizole for about 7 month now maybe 6. Hospital never looked in my ears so this k I'll ask my gp to. My ears dont feel different though. My hearing is fine it's my thought process it's on a slow mode or I get confused. I see my endo on 24th and my gp on 25th

You need FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) or Graves' disease diagnosed by different raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels or test privately

Low B12 can cause vertigo

If not had all Thyroid antibodies tested ......You will need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative and GP probably can not test TSI or TRab antibodies (endocrinologist only)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Private testing for suspected Graves - TSI or TRab antibodies

If TPO or TG antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease). If TSI or TRab antibodies are high this confirms Graves' disease

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.

Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's and Graves. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten.

So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested and TSI and TRab antibodies tested at least once .

Thankyou I do have an appointment with my endo on 24th and my gp on 25th while at hospital they did check my thyroid levels to rule out thyroid storm. This was ruled out unfortunately though I do not know what the results were all I know is I'm not over active now or underactive. My levels are at satisfactory to go ahead with the opperation I know it's not everyone's choice but I decided to go ahead with it. Could my symptoms be chronic fatigue? As hospital said they checked my vitamin levels and iron but they are fine again unsure on exactly what they tested in regards of vitamins or the levels he just said at accident and emergency its vertigo but with it lasting 9 days this concerns me

I had a viral inner ear infection several years ago and ended up in hospital because I couldn't move my head, or even my eyes, without being sick. It got better in less than 2 weeks.

However, your symptoms could be yet another thyroid complication instead. I know very little about Graves but hypothyroidism does affect the ears, including dizziness and vertigo.

Also, hyperthyroidism (as in Graves in your case) can turn to hypo, either as a result of treatment or because you have hypo causing antibodies (such as TPO) as well.

Full blood tests, as SlowDragon said, would help understand what is going on.

Thankyou this is how I feel soon as I move about I feel sick but I'm not being sick really heavy on my feet too and struggle to walk a Normal pace I suffer with anxiety too so this does not help the matters. When I have slept I dont feel like I've had enough sleep. Loss of appetite headaches and everything else I have mentioned In previous comments.and no matter what I eat low carbs or low sugar or even no sugar basically anything it makes me feel worse

Depression and anxiety may also be connected with hypothyroidism. In fact almost anything can! But on the other hand it may not.

A friend of mine with hypothyroidism has Meniers disease which interferes with balance it can be related to hypothyroidism but I am not sure if it is to hyperthyroidism. Might be worth checking out?
