Iron Testing Rules?

Hey guys, I know that with thyroid tests are best done first thing with no meds. Are there any tips for when getting a full iron panel or can you have it whenever? Thanks!

When testing iron it should be done after a 12 hour fast, water only to drink. So to make it easier for you, the blood draw is better if done as early as possible so you can have breakfast when you get back and don't have to go without food during the day.

Your doctor may request that you fast for 12 hours prior to some iron blood tests. In this case, only water is permitted. You should not take any iron tablets for 24 hours before the test. Iron is absorbed rapidly from food or tablets, and can make your blood iron levels falsely high.
