Email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/About_...

BEFORE seeing any thyroid specialist, we would always recommend getting FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing, especially if it is private appointment

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water . This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Important to test vitamin levels

Hello Kildare

You have 2 posts here, so presume for 2 different people ?

I have Graves Disease and had RAI in 2005, becoming very ill about 6 years ago.

It might be more helpful for this person to try and see a " functional medical practitioner " and would think both cities especially London, would offer some choice in this speciality.

It appears to me that A/I thyroid disease is not well understood in the mainstream NHS.

As for the other question, without further information can I just add that if Carbimazole isn't suitable there are alternative anti thyroid drugs called PTU that do not cause the same side effects.

Many people on this website are on anti thyroid medication for many years. Please do not consider surgery or especially RAI until all options have been tried and considered.

Graves is an A/I disease - there is a specialist website, but it is Stateside, so take a look at the Elaine Moore Graves Foundation, as well as reading up on this excellent website.
