B12 Levels below range....

Hi Everyone,

Had my B12 levels checked recently because I’ve been experiencing hairloss. No other symptoms. It’s come back just under the bottom of the range. Can I supplement to get the levels up myself? I think I’d prefer not to have the injections 😳

Thank you!

Before you supplement, you MUST get your GP to test the 'intrinsic factor' i.e. to ensure you do not have pernicious anaemia.

If you also have P.A. you should also post on the pernicious anaemia forum within Healthunlocked.

B12 is one of the most important vitamins and has to be at an optimum level.

If you have P.A. (I also have it) has to be treated with 2 monthly injections. We don't want to develop dementia etc.

If you just have a B12 deficiency, then you can take B12 sublingual tablets.

I'd take thyroid hormones alone - usually first thing with one full glass of water - then at lunchtime any vitamin/minerals supplements that are necessary.

I have changed a sentence in my response above to:-

If you have P.A. (I also have it) has to be treated with injections every two months. We don't want to develop dementia etc.

I almost always recommend going over to the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum here:

healthunlocked.com/pasoc

Although there are quite a number here who have B12 problems, that is the dedicated forum.

Bottom of range is already regarded by many as far, far too low. Damage from low B12 is cumulative and it is extremely important to get your level up again as soon as possible to avoid permanent, irreversible effects. I suggest this needs injections.
