TSH below range

Due to not knowing the nurse was coming to take bloods I had taken my throxine and T3 a couple of hours before she had arrived.

My Gp only tested my TSH but considering I had taken my meds was surprised to see it was below normal ------

TSH serum level - 0.27 U/ml ( 0.38 -5.33 ) Below low referance limit

I have been on thyroid med for many years first my being over active and then under. My previous endo was over medicating me to extreme so much so I suffered heart failure. The now endo seems to be under medicating !

Advice please.

The 'time of last dose' of Levo / T3 only affects the fT4 / fT3 results Jillymo .. it doesn't affect that days TSH result.

So your TSH result does not suggest undermedication ( if anything it could indicate slight overmedication but in order to be sure , you really need at least fT4 and preferably fT3 done)

For accurate/ most consistent tests,.....last dose levo 24 hrs before, early a.m , fasting test.

My brain has turned to mush today but if I'm reading that correctly if you were undermedicated your TSH would be high not below range. And you can't tell thyroid status by TSH alone, you need FT4 and FT3, shame the docs don't seem to understand this.

And include testing vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 in private testing

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Remember to stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before all blood tests

ALWAYS Test thyroid levels early morning, ideally just before 9am

Last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Day before test always split T3 into 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose T3 Approx 8-12 hours before test

How much levothyroxine and T3 are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand at each prescription

On almost any dose of T3 TSH is virtually always extremely low or suppressed. Most important results are always Ft3 followed by Ft4…..not TSH

I am on both B12 ( injections ) and prescribed folic acid.

Vit D is also prescribed due to hypoparathyroidism.

Levo 75mg and Liothyronine 20mcg.

I have changed to a new pharmacy recently and insisted I am given the same brand.
