Hello Runningmusic

Well, yes, these results are " fine " in as far as they go, they are all in range, but how are you feeling ?

Once on thyroid hormone replacement we look for a TSH of around 1 or under.

Your T4 is just under 25% through the range, your T3 is just 8 points into a range of 30 giving a 26% through range, with your conversion ratio of T4/T3 coming in at just over 3.

So it all looks pretty balanced and nothing jumps out as a problem, but for the fact that if you are still suffering symptoms of hypothyroidism you are definitely in a position to have a dose increase without pushing any numbers out of their ranges.

A dose increase of 25mcg should bring your TSH down and your T4 and T3 up, thereby, hopefully relieving some symptoms of hypothyroidism you maybe suffering.

After a 6/8 week period, blood tests should be done again to assess where you are then, in relation to the relief of symptoms and another 25 mcg increase maybe necessary. The aim is the relief of symptoms, and ideally, staying in the reference ranges.

Most people feel well when their T4 is in the upper quadrant of the range, so this would be at around 18 + . Generally speaking T3 increases proportionally as T4 increases so again, it would be in the upper quarter of the reference range.

Your body needs to convert the prohormoneT4 into T3 which is the active hormone that the body runs on. Conversion can be compromised if your vitamins and minerals are not optimal, so it's always wise to get ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D tested.

However with your conversion ratio coming in at around 3, I doubt this is a currently issue.
