Experiences with alcohol intolerance

I see that alcohol intolerance is listed as a possible symptom with thyroid issues. Does anyone have experience with this?

I have been diagnosed hypo for 18 months and generally stabilizing with my dose and lifestyle management although certain symptoms come and go.

However my ability to drink has disappeared. A glass or two of wine or one G&T can result in A) instant fatigue and weariness B) wicked migraines the next day that can simmer for a couple of days.

This may be coincidental as have not proved causality. I read its not uncommon in general life and and I am approaching 50 (slowly). I read some on levo get headaches that resist all treatment and can last days and from the description feel I have had a few of these. I have started noting headaches in a diary.

On the plus side the new 'very low alcohol G&Ts' from a well known Gin manufacturer at supermarket seem very nice and at least I am "down with the kids" as they seem not to drink anymore. I am trying abstinence now for as long as I can hold out.

Q. By intolerance anyone know if they mean an allergic or other reaction or could this manifest in other ways.

thanks

Many members have found they have become intolerant to alcohol in some way, myself included. It was never a very important aspect of my life so it's not a problem for me not to have a drink.

If you are on a PC, look to the right of the page at the top and you will see "Related Posts", have a look through those. Not sure where it is on other devices, possibly further down.

thanks, found and read them, all sounds familiar.

I used to enjoy a bottle or 2 of rather strong spirits (at least 100° proof) at Christmas and birthday, nothing much at any other time. But after losing thyroid gland have avoided any alcohol at all as it doesn't taste nice any more. At least I can still indulge myself in any soft drinks going, especially flavoured milky coffee which still does taste very nice indeed.
