So I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism

We agreed we was going to put ttc on hold until my levels rectified however my body had other ideas which dont get me wrong I'm ecstatic about but also scared because I wanted to be healthy again first.

Anyway I'm on 50mcg levo

My midwife appt will be the 26th September.

What do I need to know before then? Waiting in the gps now for an appt. From what I know I need my levels retesting and possibly increasing 25 to 50 mcg...

It's important to see your GP as soon as possible. You should typically increase thyroxine by 25-50mcg as soon as you find out you're pregnant, I would do that now (just go with 25mcg) even before seeing your GP.

If I recall right, your GP should retest your levels in 2 weeks time, and should ensure TSH is kept below 2.5.

Hope someone can come along to confirm all this shortly!

Thank you. The gp has advised me wait until midwife appt before increasing. H0wever I was due to test next week anyway due to recently starting on these meds. So I'm gonna test this week and take it from there. I have 25mcg and 50mcg altho only on 50mcg daily so I think I'll take an extra 25mcg off my own back for now.

This document is very helpful: google.com/url?sa=t&source=...

The guidance on increasing dose is at the bottom of page 2. Although this is Lothian health board, the guidance would be pretty standard, so it should help you with understanding whatever results you get back.

P.s. it's a link to a PDF so when you click it, it'll ask if you want to download the document, thought I should warn you in case you think it's a virus :)

These guidelines are quite explicit.....increase by 25mcg as soon as you know you are pregnant

I usually take it about 7am anyway and blood place doesn't open until 8.30 so I'll just take wednesdays dose late
