NDT and Piriton?

6 Replies

Hi, does anyone know if Piriton interacts with NDT negatively? I know there are issues with some antihistamines and Levothyroxine, but I'm hoping Piriton is ok with Thyroid S. This year, my hayfever which is normally mild, seems worse, so, sometimes I'm having to resort to taking Piriton.

Thanks!

Yep it's fine it works in a different way or so Dr told me. If eyes are a problem use clinitas. If snots are a problem use sudafed. Always wear sunscreen of 50..+. And sunglasses. Extra lip cover like chapstick. Good luck to you.

Please specify which Sudafed product - there are several and they do not all contain the same active ingredients.

If you are referring to products that contain pseudoephedrine, this paper might suggest caution in those with thyroid issues;

Abstract

Thyroid storm is an increasingly rare, life-threatening manifestation of thyrotoxicosis that can be precipitated by many physiologic stressors. The exact mechanism by which thyrotoxicosis decompensates into thyroid storm in certain individuals is unknown. These individuals may have an enhanced cellular sensitivity to either catecholamines or thyroid hormone. Serum levels of catecholamines are usually low or normal in thyrotoxic individuals. Ingestion of sympathomimetic drugs in thyrotoxic individuals may precipitate thyroid storm. This article presents an unusual case of Graves' disease that decompensated into thyroid storm after the ingestion of an over-the-counter cold medication containing pseudoephedrine.

Yep I was. Its all up to you. All medicines have some sort of reaction somewhere. He seems to be talking about one person out of all people with thyroid problems who May have had a mega reaction. I have taken it for years. Anyway hope u find some relief. N

Thank you, that's a relief as it is the only thing which seems to help me when I'm having allergy melt downs (sneezing and runny nose to the point of feeling right old crappy), it also helps me sleep at night when I am suffering especially as the pollen seems to hit me in the evenings and early mornings. Appreciate your thoughts 😊.

I have to take Piriton for hay fever every year, and have not noticed any contra for the NDT I take. Dont know why but it has been bad this year and is still going strong. Mind you, I have been handling a lot of hay bales...

I also found local honey eaten through the year has helped. I like honey and have friends who have hives. It may be worth you trying this - but it has to be local honey.

Thanks serenfach, that's great to hear! 😊 I've only developed issues with pollen more recently, and this year it's been tiresome. Pirition has given me some relief thankfully, I was dreading hearing that it is a no go with NDT, so I'm a happy bunny 😄.
