For anyone experiencing difficulty getting Morningside liothyronine, I rang around several pharmacists and apparently only Mercury ( Advanz ), Teva and Accord are now listed on the NHS system for liothyronine. I rang Morningside at Northampton and was told if I requested Accord I would get Morningside. All these wheelings and dealings are frustrating.
Morningside/Accord merger?: For anyone... - Thyroid UK
Morningside/Accord merger?
I don't know what is meant by 'NHS System', but NICE/BNF (British National Formulary) currently lists:
Cytomel 5microgram tablets (Imported (United States))
Liothyronine 20microgram tablets (A A H Pharmaceuticals Ltd)
Liothyronine 20microgram tablets (Actavis UK Ltd)
Liothyronine 20microgram tablets (Advanz Pharma)
Liothyronine 20microgram tablets (Alliance Healthcare (Distribution) Ltd)
Liothyronine 20microgram tablets (Morningside Healthcare Ltd)
Liothyronine 20microgram tablets (Teva UK Ltd)
Cytomel 25microgram tablets (Imported (United States)
Liothyronine 20microgram powder for solution for injection vials (Advanz Pharma)
That's interesting......more T3 licenses awarded perhaps in an attempt to drive prices down?
Never heard of anyone getting any NHS prescription that wasn't Mercury Pharma (Advanz), Morningside or Teva
As I understand, they are not all separate, different products. The company name is the distributor. AAH, for example, is a distributor in the same group as Lloyds, and Alliance is a distributor in the same group as Boots.
The list from the MHRA has seven liothyronine products. Two injections (which will be hospital-only products), and three tablet products (Iraksin and Tertroxin are Morningside and Mercury Pharma/Advanz but as branded products - hence five entries but only three different products).
IRAKSIN 20MICROGRAMS TABLETS
LIOTHYRONINE SODIUM 20 MICROGRAM TABLETS
LIOTHYRONINE SODIUM 20 MICROGRAMS POWDER FOR SOLUTION FOR INJECTION
LIOTHYRONINE SODIUM 20 MICROGRAMS TABLETS
LIOTHYRONINE SODIUM BP 20MICROGRAMS TABLETS
TERTROXIN TABLETS 20MCG
TRIIODOTHYRONINE 20 MICROGRAMS POWDER FOR SOLUTION FOR INJECTION
Me neither, it's always the same old trio and if you ask for Cytomel or anything out of the ordinary from the GP or pharmacist you get a blank look or see their mind ticking over writing a referral to the shrink. One prescribing nurse told me once that Mercury Pharma didn't exist, had a right argument with her. Why do I always get 'em?
