Sudden TSH lowering...so I’m due to have an op and during Preassesment they found my TSH is low, just had it redone and it’s even lower despite changing Levo dose, then I thought, I’ve been eating Maca powder, raw and daily... ooops! Anyone else made this ooopsie? I was eating it to boost immune function after being in hospital with a bad infection in January, forgot about it’s effects on endocrine balancing.

Hi, I have had 2 hip replacements with a suppressed tsh and no problems. The hospital didn't seem to bother either. Jo xx

My ops been cancelled for two months, to risky to do a 12+ hour operation with lowered TSH.

I have had four operations since dx and treatment. TSH been suppressed all that time - 0.05 (0.3-5). But no-one even asked me about my thyroid levels, even though I declared Hashi's, so I would be interested to hear why it could be a problem.

Oh wow! I’ve just been told because my operation is extensive and involves microsurgery, requires 12 hours of sedation and will be a 3 month recovery the stress on my heart from the TSH being 0.3 is to much of a risk along with my weight, but it is technically elective so maybe they can be more cautious than if it was emergency work? Also my hospital is down on theatr staff by 30%, it’s probably just over caution?

Ah yes, maybe the length of time is the issue. 3 of my 4 were emergencies, but all were under 3 hours under full anaesthetic (but 2 within 2 days). I also had another procedure done under sedation, but again that was only about an hour.

It sounds like a major undertaking for you. Obviously it's important to follow their advice, but maybe they should look at FT4/FT3/TSH as a package, not just TSH in isolation?

They said ft4 is perfectly fine but they refuse to check my fT3, new nhs guidelines say it’s not important according to the consultant I saw at the hospital when I asked about a small T3 trial a few months ago, he promptly discharged me back to GP.

Sorry you’ve had to undergo so many surgery’s, hope you are ok.
