I took it on and off years ago if i'd overeaten...it was fab for that. However, I'm mindful of the side effects...it can cause fluid retention in some ppl. So, yeah, I avoid it.

Thx

I take l-glutamine daily since mid June.

I started low and climbed up. My current dose is 40 G.

L-glutamine helped me in repairing my gut. My psoriasis almost disappeared, my FT3 increased as a result of efficient conversion T4>T3.

The only side effect, l-glutamine increased my TSH, I have researched and found out that glutamine and glutamic acid enhance TSH.

I will continue supplementing with 40 G until end of the month then I will withdraw it until next blood workup then I might reintroduce it with a maintenance dose 5g daily.

If it increases TSH, mine must be zero without it. Did nothing for conversion for me,. but more TSH can mean better conversion

Exactly !

My tsh increased significantly, FT3 improved from 4.6 to 5.4 !

However, my goal is to suppress TSH not increase it !

I added cytomel T3 to my LT-4 in hope to normalize TSH. I am facing a dilemma whether I should withdraw glutamin or keep consuming it.

Here is the link that it enhances tsh

Any idea ?

But why do you need to worry about TSH if Ft3 and FT4 are good? it seems that glutamine acts on the pituitary, which is probably why it has no effect on my TSH (or T3) - I have secondary hypo. However I haven't taken as much as you. There are many more articles.

Because high TSH can cause fertility issues as we are trying since 8 months to get a baby without success.

I've never worked out if it is actually the high TSH that causes issues or the (usually) concurrent low thyroid hormones

Good point, I am quite sure that both can affect fertility.

In subclinical hypothyroidism, only the TSH is suboptimal, doctors recommend treating the TSH before trying

Didn't suit me. Gave me stomach upsets.

I didn’t have any problem !

It’s gluten free, it helped me in tightening my leaky gut, psoriasis almost disappeared, the only thing is that it enhanced tsh.

Works for me. took it for decades - first when I was bodybuilding then for Crohn's.

Back on it now but I take so many things for IBS it's hard to know what works. but guts are good!

It's a difficult one. It can do wonder for IBS, but it also provides a pathway for certain cancers (but your body can make it from other proteins anyway, so the cancer would just use what you produce naturally)

I took L-Glutamine powder in water for many months. I wasn't taking a very high dose - perhaps no more than about 5g - 10g per day. I found it very helpful for a long time. Then one day I got the most horrendous stomach and gut cramps as soon as I swallowed it. The same thing happened the next day. I haven't taken it since. I don't regret having taken it, and I wish I understood what triggered the pain I got.

As already planned, yesterday I didn’t take any glutamine.

Today when I took my usual dose 125 T4 + 12.5 T3, I had extrem headache.

I dunno why, maybe because the TSH is lowered since the effects of glutamine on the pituitary gland has been withdrawn?
