Eye problems
Eye problems can be linked to low thyroid as well as low nutrients - especially B12 and VitD. I have read your post and replies of 9 months ago about Tinnitus. Did you have further testing for vitamins and minerals as suggested ? As has been mentioned before your dose is a starter dose and should be increased. Do you have recent thyroid results with ranges ?
I posted about AMD recently - so click onto my username above and you will see the post
Thank you for your reply,I had blood tests done which showed I had high cholesterol.I am waiting to see a cardiologist in August. My blood test was not a fasting test, the result according to my Dr was 7 ,he said it was satisfactory. My tinnitus has improved, but not completely gone.I had a hearing test, conclusion,I have age related hearing loss.l take multi vitamins daily.
Forgot to mention I was put on Statins, that gave me stomach ache.I stopped taking them, recently.
On the NHS website is states that Hypothyroidism should first be rectified before starting Statins. Low Thyroid can be the cause of raised cholesterol. Please do your research - hundreds of posts on this forum on this topic. Your dose needs increasing - will the cardiologist know this ? - possibly NOT
It is often mentioned on this forum - almost daily - that taking a Multi-vitamin is not a good idea - not enough to have an effect and if you increase the dose then you may overdose on something. Also the fillers are not good and often cheap ingredients are used. You need to test for B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD - as all these need to be optimal for your thyroid meds to work well. Post the results with ranges in a new post for people to comment.
Do you have results for your thyroid blood tests ? When were you last tested ? Do you ask for copies of all your results - they are legally yours ...
50mcg is only a starter dose of Levothyroxine
Can you add your most recent blood test results and ranges. Have you had vitamins and antibodies tested?
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

The aim of Levothyroxine is to increase the dose slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until TSH is under 2 (many need TSH significantly under one) and most important is that FT4 in top third of range and FT3 at least half way in range
All four vitamins need to be regularly tested and frequently need supplementing to maintain optimal levels
NHS guidelines on Levothyroxine including that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine.
