My labs from May are posted, I felt great. I was on 5 mcg of T3 and 75 mcg of Synthroid Mon-Friday and 88 mcg On Sat and Sunday..

In late May the nurse told me to continue with T3 but increase my Synthroid which I questioned but did increase an extra 150 mcg a week. ( total 700 mcg week). (This was a misunderstanding ( I’m being kind) and I should not of increased it.

3-4 weeks later I felt very ill, jittery, heart palpitations, nausea and diarrhea 😢.

Now he wants me to take 2.5 mcg of T3 and 50 of Synthroid. I feel awful.. butterflies in my whole body. Most current labs posted too.

What is going on?

Were you also taking T3 on the Saturday/Sunday? T3 has to be taken every day because of it's short half life.

If you felt great on those doses, why was anything changed?

There are no reference ranges so unfortunately we can't comment on your results. It will probably be easier for members to understand if you actually type your results like this

DATE - Day/month/year

TSH - Result (Range aa - bb)

FT4 - Result (cc - dd)

FT3 - Result (ee - ff)

Hi,

My dr #1 added T3 on April 2, the May labs were a follow up. He didn’t want me on T3 but after feeling so poorly for a long time he agreed.

Yes, I took 5 mcg everyday.

My labs after approximately 5 weeks after addition of T3 were-

May 2019 (Felt great)

T3 3.6 RR 2.0-4.4 pg/mL

TSH 0.22. RR 0.36-3.74 ulu/mL

FT4 1.07. RR 0.76-1.46 ng/dL

Dr #1 phoned in Early June and told me to increase Synthroid. I questioned (?) this numerous times and finally took the additional Synthroid. June 17, I felt very ill while traveling to NY . My labs were as follows-

Free T3 3.04 RR 1.6- 4.6 pg/mL

TSH 0.06. RR 0.27-4.20 ulu/mL

FT4 1.6. RR 0.9- 1.6 ng/uL

(Dr#2 in NY told me I should not have increased Synthroid with the addition of T3 and my previous labs were good..

She was puzzled and alarmed by this, and clearly felt a mistake had been made with my d0sage.

Mid June I rec a phone call from dr #1 to cut t3 in half and take 2.5 mcg daily

And to decrease Synthroid to 37.5 mcg daily. ???????

I feel terrible and have butterfly sensation all over.

My labs from July 3 are

FT3 2.2 (RR 2.0-4.4 pg/mL.) TSH 0.60 (RR 0.36-3.74 uIU/ml)

FT4 0.82 (RR 9.76-1.46 ng/dL)

I saw dr #1 yesterday and told him I felt poorly and he blamed it on the T3. I told him I had butterflies etc but my HBM and BP were fine.

He has me in 2.5 mcg of T3 and 5O mcg of Synthroid .

Not sure what to think 🤔

May 2019 (Felt great)

T3 3.6 RR 2.0-4.4 pg/mL

TSH 0.22. RR 0.36-3.74 ulu/mL

FT4 1.07. RR 0.76-1.46 ng/dL

Those results were good. On a combination of Levo and T3, the T3 is going to lower TSH, it will also lower FT4, so those results are as expected on the combination, and as you felt good it was obviously a good combination for you. I cannot understand why Dr #1 increased your Levo - did s/he say why? There was no need, and Dr #2 was correct.

What Dr #1 did in mid-June - reducing your T3 and Levo - was ridiculous and your labs show this had quite a devastating effect as your July results show and, of course, how you felt. Also, we should never change both Levo and T3 at the same time because whatever effect it has we don't know which dose change caused it.

Why do you have 2 doctors treating your thyroid? They are going to have different ideas - as you know - and you will be forever messed about with dose changes. Can you not stick with Dr #2 and go back to the dose you were on when you felt great in May? That looks like your optimum dose, you had good results and felt well. No need to change anything.

Hi SeasideSusie, thank you for your reply.

I have residence in 2 states in the USA. Most of my time though is near Dr #1.

First dosage change to increase T4 was to drive up my TSH....nurse words)

Dr then reduced dosage my dosage by half bc my TSH was too low. (?) That’s what I was told.......I believe it was a mistake on the nurse that phoned me with dosage changes. ( won’t get into that..... )

Anyway I had terrible butterflies and did (do) not feel well. I’m thoroughly disgusted because I had a great May and early June.

I’m heading back to home #2 and have an appointment with Dr#2 in a few weeks.

Keep you posted.
