Help with labs and dosage please

HaloHealth profile image
13 Replies

Hi everyone, I currently have no diagnosis and no help from doctors. I got some labs done privately and would love some help with them please. I currently manage symptoms with AIP diet. I was told yesterday by an online guru that I have high cortisol and to take Seriphos. I’m excited to see get this tomorrow. I need help with finding dosage for my thyroid. I have access to some T4 and T3 and have read great reviews about NDT Thyrogold. Any help with how much to take/what to take would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Someone more knowledgeable will confirm but I think your FT3/FT4 are too low in range.

Your Vitamin D, folate and ferritin are too low. Vit D needs to be 100-150 to be optimal, and folate and ferritin in the upper third of the reference range.

B12 is fine.

At what time of day did you have the bloods taken? Your TSH is highest early in the morning and drops as the day goes on. A post from another member (jimh111) about the same issue says "your normal TSH with low fT3 and low fT4 suggests you may have 'secondary hypothyroidism".

It is not obvious you have any thyroid problem - no autoimmune antibodies so not as yet Hashimoto's; frees are lowish .... what made you think you had symptoms? Your folate and ferritin levels are very poor to support good thyroid health- should be at least halfway thru range; Vit D better 100-150. If you have illnesses like high cortisol, and what you are assuming is a thyroid condition are you seeing a doctor to rule out other illnesses, rather than self medicate for everything. Post your cortisol results here too.

Thanks. I have symptoms of weight gain, weight resistance (AIP has finally enabled me to lose some weight and helped with symptoms).

Extreme fatigue,

brain fog,

memory issues,

Groggy when wake

tingling in hands and feet,

Achy finger joints/feet in the morning

Puffy hands and face in morning

Irritability

Can't tolerate wheat/grains/sugar/vegetable oils/msg/nightshades, carbs, processed foods of any kind

Can't tolerate stress

Digestion issues

Dairrhea on and off for 6 months

I was at a stage where a 20 min walk made me feel like I had run 5 miles.

I tried to post my saliva test but it would only let me add one image. Will try again

I also have heart pounding and internal body tremors

I have had lots of tests done with doctors and everything comes back normal and has done for years when I first knew something wasn’t right. I’ve just given up on them. I’ve followed a paleo diet mostly for the last 8 years so it’s not my lifestyle either. I do have PTSD which has contributed to my stress levels.

Ok. Try upping your low folate and ferritin, Vit D and even boost your B12 ( or perhaps B in general) a bit. Hypothyroids also often add selenium( selenomethionine 200 mcg), magnesium ( lots of types that have slightly different properties, I take Mg citrate), zinc, Vit C.... methyl folate instead of folic acid, Vit D with vit K2 as liquid spay or drops, ferrous fumarole for iron. Look up SeasideSusie's past replies for Vit/ min advice/ doses/when to take them/ recommended makes- it's a bit of a minefield I'm afraid. Some people have hypo symptoms without apparently being out of the various thyroid blood ranges- your healthy range being naturally at the top for eg but now struggling near the bottom. Improving your Vit/ mins should help whatever.

Thank you. I’m already taking Beef liver caps (B12, iron/copper), COD liver oil (Vit D) and Methyl B12, along with bee pollen, boron. I was taking magnesium but I think that made my internal tremors worse. I was taking an adrenal cocktail everyday which is coconut water, Vit C and sodium. I stopped as I realised it was making me need to urinate very frequently. I take some digestive enzymes as I have low stomach acid. I’m not absorbing nutrients properly. I take the B12 drops under my tongue and this is probably why this has come up as it was very low 6 months ago

Some of your nutrient levels are way too low.

Folate: 5.41 (2.91-50.00) - This should be at least half way through range. Eating folate rich foods will help, plus taking a good quality B Complex containing the active forms of ingredients, and 400mcg methylfolate will help raise your level. Look at Thorne Basic B (1 capsule) or Igennus Super B (2 tablets). I raised my folate from very bottom to very top of range in 2.5 months with 1 x Thorne Basic B daily.

Ferritin: 37.? (13-150) - I can't quite read the last figure in your result, the results are very feint. This should be half way through it's range, even our own thyroid hormone can't work properly with low ferritin. It would be an idea to ask your GP, or do a private test, for iron panel and full blood count to see if there is iron deficiency anaemia.

You can help raise your level by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/in...

Vit D: 63.?nmol/L - The Vit D Council, The Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L so you could buy some D3 softgels (Doctors Best are very good) and I'd take 3000iu daily for 3 months then retest. Once you've reached the recommended level then you'll need a maintenance dose which may be 2000iu daily, maybe more or less, maybe less in summer than winter, it's trial and error so it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range. You can do this with a private fingerprick blood spot test with City Assays vitamindtest.org.uk/

There are important cofactors needed when taking D3 as recommended by the Vit D Council -

vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds.

Magnesium helps D3 to work and comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds

naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

Check out the other cofactors too.

Thank you. I replied to judithdalston with vitamins I’m already taking which should have covered all those points. I eat very healthy with lots of folate rich foods. I don’t think I’m absorbing nutrients due to low stomach acid. I’ve been taking digestive enzymes to help. But diarrhoea over the last 6 months is contributing to my vitamin loss.
