Hi, Back in January I had a hemi thyroidectomy as I had a large lump however my thyroid function was always fine. Since then I have had two function tests, first being slightly under second being satisfactory. I have all the symptoms of underactive, weight gain, low mood, constipation, tired and very irregular period which was always a 28 day cycle. Is it possible I could have underactive when test came back satisfactory? I’d love to start trying for another baby but can’t when my period is so irregular.

Under active thyroid symptoms
I had same operation back in 1989 for a benign goitre that was attempting to kill me by self-strangulation. The gland wasn't working correctly at the time of the operation and I became seriously affected afterwards. My GP, I subsequently realised, had quite amazingly known that with my specific issues, the remaining tissues would probably start working again eventually. And that is precisely what happened, but I was off work for 3+ months. After that my life returned to wonderful normal for 14 years until "son of goitre" multinodular goitre came back with a vengeance in 2005 to have another go at killing me, which nearly succeeded..
As your problems still exist after 6 months, you do need to get adequate testing done to indicate whether you condition is recovering. Get the full results of the tests you have had done since the op and post them here for the opinions of other members who know a great deal more than me about their meaning.
Thanks for your reply, that’s scary that it came back for you. I have a doctor appointment scheduled next week so I will ask for further tests and post the results.
