I want to know from people’s personal experience, if they had issues with low iron and hypothyroidism? If low iron caused your thyroid medicine not to work.

Does Low Iron cause your thyroid medicine not to work?
Not sure of the science behind it, others will be I'm sure, but I think that optimal iron levels help.
I have Hashimitos and if I don't take iron supplements then I suffer with ferritin deficiency. I'm not sure what the direct link is between that and thyroid meds though.
You definitely shouldn't take iron too close to meds or they won't work.
Yes I think you drive home a big point, it’s frustrating with whatever is going with me. I hate the way that I feel with trying to do so much, other making me feel bad about it.
Low iron can certainly cause a lot of things to not work or work below par. In the case of thyroid metabolism you also need selenium because you need that catalyst to facilitate the reaction of T4 to T3. That is why they are called selenoenzymes.
But yes, for many reasons, work at raising your iron level. Liver is great if you can stomach it, red meat is also great. You will need vitamin C and red wine to make it possible for your iron to be absorbed. I personally have to take an iron supplement to keep my iron high even though I advocate that metals should be taken via food - I cannot stand liver and, while I like steak, I can't eat great gobs of it, so I break my rule when it comes to iron and I take a pill.
Hey LAHs I wanted to follow up, I wanted to understand you say iron can effect the way thyroid medicine works.
I do not know the mechanism for iron in the thyroid sequence. I only know that low iron can effect just about everything. It is necessary to have optimal ferritin for the thyroid sequences to work well and to get optimal ferritin you need optimal iron - although there again is another mystery, ferritin is a protein which stores iron and from my experience supplementing iron did not raise my ferritin but this is not everyone's experience. I find iron awfully complicated but there are one or two people on this site who have explained it a couple of times. It is also necessary to have optimal vitamin D, B12, and folate but why and the roll they play in the thyroid sequence I do not know. There is a paper written by Gregg Kelly who explains the whole sequence from T4 to T1. He explains it quite simply, Google it and read it. Iron nor ferritin get a mention but he does explain the importance of Selenium.
Lol LAHs I cannot go do the liver thing too. I thought multivitamins would keep my minerals and vitamins at an optimal level. I realize multivitamins don’t really work compared to taking individual vitamins.
