Please, can someone advise. I have been on thyroxine for about two and a half months, the first month was 25mcg then the rest on 50mcg, I am feeling more lethargic and down in the dumps now than I was before I was diagnosed, what's it all about???

Hi Skippy10 👋 Did your GP do blood tests before s/he upped your dose? What age range are you? 25 is usually a starter for children or elderly. Usually it’s 50mcg. Do you have your blood tests that you can share? You’ll probably need an increase from 50 that’s for sure. Increasing in increments of 25mcg every 6wks till you feel good.

I think that when your Thyriod has been struggling for a period of time and then we supplement it’s almost like it breathes a sigh of relief, packs it’s bags and gets a cocktail while the replacement thyroxine does most of the work. It’s just exhausted!

Definitely get your blood tests every 6wks. TSH, FT4/3 and autoimmune testing too. Ask your GP to look at your vitamin levels too, they are probably low. Other posters more informed than I can guide you on this.

Not old enough or young enough for a small starter dose.

I had more bloods taken this morning so GP will go through results wed, hopefully she will advise an increase. Feeling pretty rubbish right now😏

Hi, yes had bloods done and my TSH is now 4 previously 13. Originally I was given 50mcg but I wasn't really advised how to take them and the effects were awful so doc advised dropping down to 25mcg, following which I did lots of research and discovered that they should be taken before food and not with other meds. I took them for a month and was still not feeling great so went up to 50mcg with still no real improvement, hence the post.

This makes your post make more sense. It’s always better to give too much info rather than too little 🤗

So when you started on 25mcg what were your symptoms? Taking them with food or certain meds would diminish their potency not enhance it so I don’t think this has anything to do with any reaction you felt.

Having increased to 50 do you feel any of those initial reactions? You almost certainly will need an increase. IF you think you are sensitive to the introduction of a Levo or an increase then you can do it slowly. Adding an extra 25 per week only if you’re really sensitive. Or 2x per week or every other day eg

25x 6, 50 x1

25x5 50 x 2

25x4 50x 3

25/50 (every other day)

Only you will know how it’s making you feel when you introduce. You’ll find a pace that suits you until you can tolerate the higher dose that you need. I don’t think 50 is going to be enough. You may soon find yourself on 100 but like I said if it shocks your system too much, take it slow and soon you’ll find you’re feeling better 🤗

Been to GP today, she agreed to increase to 75mcg but checking bloods in 3 weeks to ensure meds don't make thyroid overactive. I have a lot going on as going through menopause and having hot flushes and my blood pressure is high (shoot me now)😂😂

Apparently they have only been checking thyroid so she is reverting back to doing additional bloods next time to ensure that everything else is in order. Hopefully I'll start to see some improvement 🤞
