Itchy rash
Hi Hidden when my Graves started I had intensely itchy soles of feet and palms of hands, which broke out into small watery blisters. After an unbearable weekend I went to GP who said that it was Pompholyx and gave me Cortisone Cream to put on it. It went within three days, but I think in those days (1972) the Cream was much stronger than it is today. At the same time the GP, who was good in those days, said he thought I had Graves and would take blood levels to confirm this. He also asked about my weight and when I told him that I had lost 1 stone without trying and had a good appetite, he said that more or less confirmed his diagnosis. I did have Graves and was subsequently treated on Carbimazole. My profile can be read on my page.
Hi. Thanks for your reply...
I’ve previously had an over active thyroid (7yrs ago) and a course of Carbimazole, the dose was slowly reduced and my thyroid blood tests came back in range. I’m pretty sure something is now going on with my thyroid. GP has written to the endo who says my raised TPO antibodies are not uncommon with someone who has previously had a thyroid issue?! Loads of different symptoms at minute and the hands and feet are the newest. GP has refused to test other antibodies and other vitamins (he did test my D and I’m deficient!). Paid to see a private GP on Friday and was a complete waste of time. No examination, just told me I need to go back to my GP and get him to treat me for anxiety!! Next step is to order a private blood test I think. It’s pretty sole destroying. 🙈
Unless recommended by someone most private GPs and Endos, are no better than the ones we usually see. Blue Horizon and Medichecks do good private blood testing The other Graves antibody test is TSI, which is not very often done. certainly don't let your GP give you anti-depressants, before thoroughly checking your FT3. It does rather sound as though you have gone hyper again. Wish you well and come back with results when you get them.
Sorry I may have missed something posted.
Were the Graves antibodies, TraB or TSI, ever tested?
Hi, no. They won’t test me, they said no point! My TSH, TF3 & 4 are in range but my TPO is raised. I am also vitamin D deficient, 25. The endo says that due to my previous overactive thyroid, raised antibodies are normal and they refuse to do anything and advised retest in 12months.
It's true your bloods, except for TPO, were all in range.
TraB and TSI testing is to rule out Graves.
TPO antibodies is for Hashimoto's, which I cannot comment on since I am not familiar with this. I think a high TPO level with blood levels in range, just means you are at greater risk of developing Hashis. You might want to confirm this.
You've seen the doctor for the rashes? Any diagnosis and medication?
What other symptoms do you have?
Hi
I started with this around 18 months ago on my hands and like j_bee, I got blisters with it. Dermatologist called it Pompholyx. It is a type of eczema.
I was diagnosed hypo. eight years ago but did not get the Pompholyx until 18 months ago. At the time it appeared my thyroid levels were out, my TSH had risen and FT3 had dropped so I do wonder if it was associated with my levels.
My Doctor did say as I was hypo. it would make me more prone to eczema.
I used cortisone cream when it was really bad and now use a 3 in 1 cream called Cetraben Ointment to wash hands in and use as a moisturiser which keeps it under control.
