Hi all. I requested my adrenal glands be checked and I managed to finally obtain the results. They are 232 nmol/L but I was unable to gain the normal range. My endo has booked me in for a short synacthen. I have spent quite some time researching but cannot seemed to find if this is expected or quite common with hashimoto disease or is rather a more definite sign of something worse like addison's disease. Can anyone shed any light on this whether this is quite normal or not.
I hope I have explained this well enough only found out today.
Thank you all, Leah.

What time was the blood taken for the cortisol result? If it was done around 9am then it is low, it should be around 500nmol/Ls at that time of day. Which I'm guessing why the Endo is doing a short synacthen test. What is important is for bloods to be taken for ACTH at the start of the test, this needs to go on ice straightaway. This shows if it is your pituitary gland that is the issue. The SST will show if your adrenal glands are responding to the artificial ACTH. Often the result will come back that you responded well to the ACTH yet your base level cortisol of 232nmol/L is low. Have a look at the UK Addisons Disease website for lots more information.
