Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

Are you currently taking any vitamin supplements?

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Common for conversion of FT4 to FT3 to get worse with age, especially after menopause

Email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists who will prescribe T3

Many thanks I shall heed your advice re timing of test. I’m not taking any vitamins currently, waiting to see what the test reveals first. Interestingly the vet tests our dog twice daily one test fasting and then another 6-7 hours later. Perhaps I should see the vet!
