Does anyone know how long it for blood results to come through from Blue Horizon. Sent saliva and blood samples over two weeks ago and so far I have not heard anything from Blue Horizon. Is this normal practice?
thank you

What tests did you have?
Do they give a turnaround time on their website for them?
Did you send them back by Royal Mail's Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm Next Day and have a receipt and tracking number?
Hi Susie had saliva test and thyroid fifteen blood test and sent both together to the lab. On morning of postage, directly after bloods were extracted friend mailed them because I had to get to work. Gave him cash for special delivery via royal mail. Unfortunately , later that day he proudly gave me money back and said postage was prepaid. He was delighted thinking he had saved me some money my heart just sank. He did not listen to my instructions....to pay for special delivery. Whoops. But still why have I not been contacted to confirm things either way?
What a waste of money
Thanks jean
Hi Jean
Well, shame on your friend for not listening, as the Thyroid Plus 15 says "Must be received by lab next day".
It also says the target turnaround time is 15 working days so if the lab only works Monday to Friday then that is 3 weeks.
As for your saliva test - presumably cortisol? It's a shame you used Blue Horizon for that as it doesn't include the important DHEA test as well as cortisol. It does say one day turnaround time which I find strange. I use Regenerus for adrenal saliva test (cortisol plus DHEA) and I think that may be sent to the US (samples have to be returned frozen) and that takes a couple of weeks. It's possible the lab is waiting to report your results all together.
I've never had any returned samples acknowledged when doing them with Blue Horizon, I've only had Medichecks confirm receipt.
I don't think you've wasted your money, I just think your results aren't yet ready. But you could contact Blue Horizon and check up, especially for the saliva test with it's very quick normal turnaround.
Thanks Susie you have given me some hope. May get some results eventually. Samples were posted 9 0 clock on a Wednesday morning. Seeing the prepaid envelope the post officer worker told friend that the package would be received the following day which is what blue horizon require. But still my friend made a blunder by not paying for special delivery as required by blue horizon. Perhaps special delivery packages received at lab are selected for priority service as opposed to the normal prepaid envelope that may come secondary. Just a thought!!!!! Will get the saliva test you suggested in the future. Feel rather down trodden....in total it took months getting these tests done.
Thanks a million for your help and support.
the post officer worker told friend that the package would be received the following day which is what blue horizon require.
Post Office worker was wrong to say that, the PO do not guarantee that normal first class will arrive the next day. Even Special Delivery doesn't always arrive on time - I have experienced it taking 48 hours about 3 times, having the receipt means that you can reclaim the Special Delivery fee if this happens.
This is what BH says in their Ts and Cs
First class post by Royal Mail aims for next day delivery but can sometimes be 2-3 days, or more.
Return Sample Postage:
You should aim to get your pathology sample back to the Laboratory in the provided envelope as soon as possible. Although we have restricted a number of profiles that are likely to haemolyse we do suggest that the best course of action to take is to get the sample back to the laboratory the next day by attending your post office and upgrading to Royal Mail next day delivery with consequential loss cover.
If you do not use a guaranteed next day service, with consequential loss cover, back to the laboratory (With you posting Monday to Thursday and the sample arriving at the laboratory (Tuesday to Friday) then we cannot guarantee that the blood will be testable due to clotting of the sample.
Perhaps special delivery packages received at lab are selected for priority service as opposed to the normal prepaid envelope that may come secondary.
I don't think the lab would differentiate, they gain nothing from what the Post Office receives in payment for their service so it doesn't matter to them which delivery method is used, so I doubt they prioritise, they would just deal with what arrives on the day.
Hopefully you'll get your results son
I get blood results on email from them within 24-48hrs. Alex
