Hi bantam12,

Thanks for your reply.

How did you go with the high calcium?

In what way ? My calcium was very high although I didn't have many symptoms, I had parathyroidectomy and now have just one left.

Have you felt better from having the surgery?

I can't say I've noticed any difference but the aim is to resolve the high calcium level which if left untreated can be extremely serious.

yes, then had parathyroid blood test, also high, subsequently followed by sestamibi scan and ultrasound to confirm an adenoma which was surgically removed.

Hi t3rr,

Thanks for your reply.

I looked up about the sestamibi scan and it was saying it could not be accurate. I don't like the idea of having radioactive agents.

parathyroid.com/sestamibi.htm.

Did the ultra sound show where the dysfunctional glands were?

Do you feel better after the surgery?

:)

Adenomas can be difficult to locate, neither ultrasound or mibi showed mine up, surgeon had to go in and search for it.

I think the ultrasound just confirmed the sesta mibi scan, and yes felt completely better after the operation, just took a couple of weeks after the operation of not doing much and then was back doing everything normally again. I had suffered lots of pain in the bones in my legs prior to the op, and literally after the op all had gone!

Yes, I had high calcium, referred to endocrinologist then ent surgeon had surgery year ago. , was long route to surgery, which is the only cure if its benign adenoma on one of parathyroid glands. Need calcium blood test, pth blood test and vit d levels checked in same blood draw to determine. Plus scan and maybe bone density testing, kidney testing if had long time. Dont leave it!

Hi julesmarg,

Thanks for your reply. Did you need to go off Vit.D3 supplements before the test?

I've had high calcium in the blood just 1 over the range but I recently did a hair mineral test and it showed even more high calcium. I broke my wrist radius 3 fractions so did a bone tensity last year showed osteopenia.

Have you got any tips to not have a long route to surgery?

Did you have the sestamibi scan with radioactive agents? Or just a ultra sound?

Did you feel better after the surgery?

:)

If your calcium is high taking VitD is unwise as it won't help your already high level.
