Hi, potentially. Auto immune diseases are inflammatory conditions and in this respect turmeric would help. I suspect limited though on its own. You could use the fresh root in cooking and in your drinks - make golden milk for example. Recipes online.

Look at your digestion, is it working efficiently? Astragalus and reishi also good places to start and add in with the turmeric. Any mushrooms like shiitake would be great to add to your diet.

50mg seems low though. It would be useful if you posted your test results including ranges so you can be advised further. Also how are your B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D results?

Hi

As Bluedragon has said 50mcg of Levothyroxine is only a starter dosage, I would guess your still not on the correct dosage.

We can help you if you have any of your recent copies of your thyroid blood tests.

If you haven’t got those, go to the doctors surgery and ask for a print out of them, your entitled to them by law.

If you haven’t had any recently, then medichecks and bluehorizon offer private thyroid blood tests via finger prick you can do at home.

Make sure you test TSH, T3 & T4, don’t take your levo that morning and do it early in the morning.

I tried turmeric, but it didn’t help. As you have Hashimotos it may help going strictly gluten free.

Best wishes

I drink golden milk regularly (turmeric, coconut flour, black pepper & nutmeg). It's nice, & supposedly theraputic, but I've not noticed any hormonal benefits other than it being pleasant in the evening. I don't have Hashimoto's, I started drinking it as I have arthritis & joint issues, & thought it a healthier alternative to cocoa.

50mcg is only a starter dose of Levothyroxine

Do you have recent blood test results and ranges you can add

You may be under treated

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

The aim of Levothyroxine is to increase the dose slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until TSH is under 2 (many need TSH under one) and FT4 in top third of range and FT3 at least half way in range

All four vitamins need to be regularly tested and frequently need supplementing to maintain optimal levels

NHS guidelines on Levothyroxine including that most patients need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine. Also what foods to avoid (note recommended to avoid calcium rich foods at least four hours away from Levo)

NICE guidelines

cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

The initial recommended dose is:

For most people: 50–100 micrograms once daily, preferably taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast, caffeine-containing liquids (such as coffee or tea), or other drugs.

This should be adjusted in increments of 25–50 micrograms every 3–4 weeks according to response. The usual maintenance dose is 100–200 micrograms once daily.

Three months ago you posted on the Diabetes and Hypertension Forum and both Peanut31 and SlowDragon responded to you with excellent advice. Have you been able to take their advice on board and make changes and progress. I do feel following the advice given would be more beneficial than Organic Turmeric at this stage :-) On another thread you asked about Private Testing - did you have it done ?

If you want to try turmeric as an anti-inflammatory you need to combine it with freshly ground black pepper. It's the curcumin in the turmeric and piperine in the black pepper that bind to make it efficacious. Read up on it because quite high doses are needed which you can also get in capsule form if you want.

A lot of my food is stained yellow and rather peppery as a consequence!

I doubt that just turmeric would make much difference you need to look into all natural things that suppress an over active immune system

I bought it from a online whole food retailer that has some things I can't get locally, or in bulk: buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/r... If you order via that link, I get discount. :)

They have extra strength turmeric & real cinnamon, too. The coconut flour is for extra fat for better absorption rather than a necessity. I'm not so keen on a lot of black pepper in it, so tend to add extra pepper to my supper, & have the golden quackery soon after. Piperine in black pepper slows down how fast the liver processes circumin in turmeric so it's more beneficial.

It can also be made from turmeric root if you don't mind fingers of a chain smoker.

There's a shop bought type available in supermarkets, but I prefer my own as sometimes I fancy more cinnamon or nutmeg.

Any liquid of your choosing. The coconut flour is for added fat as it helps circumin absorption.

I love cardamom, I’ll add that next time. 🤗
