Thyroid issues/mental health/anxiety

Hey everyone this is my first post as I am very new to the forum and have just begun my journey with my endocrinologist(thyroid). Anyway, I have had multiple blood tests, first I was hyperthyroid, then I was normal TSH with low T3 and now they are saying my thyroid function is “normal.” The confusion with this is that I am still experiencing very high anxiety/racing thoughts/fatigue. I did a scan and uptake and it came back as hyperthyroid. Has anyone had an experience like this? My blood tests are normal but the scan and uptake showed hyperthyroid. Let me know, I may also just be dealing with general anxiety??

Sounds as if you could have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Did they test any antibodies?

I had antibodies tested for graves and they came back negative

Although they did not test for Hashimotos

I have an appointment with my endocrinologist next week to discuss!

And do ask to get tested for Hashimotos.

Yes, you need to ask them to test for Hashi's. :)

I had normal bloodwork for years without serious symptoms and just had a TT 10 weeks ago for confirmed Graves’ disease, which is hyperthyroid. The post op biopsy confirmed Graves. I had the same symptoms as you, but I didn’t recognize them as coming from my thyroid - and only when the symptoms became severe 2 years ago did I get put on methimazole . I became resistant to it and also had a toxic multinodular goiter that doubled in size within 1 month. Thus, the TT. But I held onto the thyroid for 25 years.

However, there are more experienced minds than mine on this forum and I would suggest if you have your full blood work to post it here without your identification. These good folks will really help with understanding what your results say.

Wishing that you feel better and positive thoughts going your way.

Hello Blue-Angel

I think it would be wise to ask the endocrinologists, or your doctor for a print out of all the tests undertaken and what, if any, antibodies were tested, and what conclusion and diagnosis has been made, as to your thyroid health issues.

You sound as though you are dealing with symptoms of hyperactivity, possibly Graves Disease, but there is little point in just guessing, and making you more anxious.

You are entitle to copies of all your blood test results and in order to answer your question we need to know the blood test results plus the ranges so that considered opinion can be made.

P.S. Just seen the other replies, sorry, don't know how I missed them ?? !!

Anyway, good you haven't got Graves Disease, but the rest of my post still stands.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Ask GP to test vitamin levels and TPO and TG antibodies for Hashimoto's

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Appreciate the response, I have an appointment Wednesday and will discuss with my doctor and bring up these concerns, or take matters into my own hands!
