Thick head

Hi all. I’m now taking 100mg of Levothyroxine for 16 days. This is increase from 50mg. For last 2 days, I’ve had very thick head, feel nauseous, very weepy.... symptoms are really getting me down. Few days ago, I felt so well. ..... is this usual on increase dose... I be so grateful for your response...

Dose changes are supposed to be in increments of 25mcg only, as this is a hormone it's best to gradually increase, retesting 6-8 weeks after the dose change to see where you levels lie and how you feel, as explained by SlowDragon in reply to your last thread here

You might want to consider dropping back to 75mcg and then wait 6 weeks, retest then go up to 100mcg if necessary.

Thank you... my Gp increased dose to 100mg. I email him and ask for lower dose.

Why not just cut the tablet, or alternate to give you 75mcg?

GPs don't always get it right, he should never have doubled your dose, he should only have increased by 25mcg, so he may not agree. Better to just do it, see how you are.

I’d have to agree with this. I’m not even sure it’s a good idea to increase as much as 25mcg per day. It really depends on how Hypo you are according to blood tests along with symptoms. I’d even cut back to alternate days of 50/75 and build up to 75mcg everyday. Don’t give up your 100mcg per day as you may need to build up to that everyday amount in 6/12wks.

Hi there,

I’ve recently increased to 150 levo from 125 levo but after 2weeks I’ve had to drop back again because the side effects are awful. I’m going to increase by only 12.5 mcgs instead for about 5weeks and then add the extra 12.5 mcgs.

My major side effect is depression from too quick an increase and also feeling anxious but in a drugged sort of way.

Most people can handle 25mcg increases ...I’m not one of them, so have to do it more slowly.

Your 50mcg increase is a big jump in one go

I’d just do the 25mcgs extra for 4/5 weeks and then see if you can add the extra. It would be much kinder and far less disturbing to your system.

Hi, I agree with you... 50mg increase for me was far to much. I’ve cut back to 75mg, will cross my fingers my system will be much happier. Thank you for your reply.
