Dosing T3?

I have started back on T3 again six days ago and started on 12.50mg split in two doses am and pm. How long should I stay at this dose before upping by another 6.25? How slow do I go?

How long have you been hypo? I ask because if it is a long time, my experience is that you can only add T3 very slowly. I was diagnosed hypo in 2007 and then became very ill with TPO antibodies in 2012 and struggled badly until finding this site. I improved my vitamin and ferritin levels as suggested and finally added T3 last year. I was on 6.25mcg for a full year before I moved on to 10 mcgm for 3 months and now 15 mcgm. Feeling pretty good now and still following gluten and lactofree diet. Brain fog was my biggest problem and "running out of steam".

Personally I would wait at least 6-8 weeks and get bloods retested before considering adding a third dose

Vitamin levels need to be optimal too

After any period of time with no thyroid medication vitamin levels can fall catastrophically

My vitamins are good. Why do we have to go so slow when taking T3. I see STTM doesn’t?

I would go with what slow dragon advised. I made the mistake of putting mine up too quickly and felt awful for weeks. And I didn’t connect the feeling awful with too much T3 until I read up on it so had to stop the T3 for a couple of weeks then start right at the beginning again.

I put on a stone in a month because I couldn’t stop eating. I was constantly starving and I wasn’t sleeping very well so was tired all day.

I’m now feeling fine on 10mcg in the morning with my T4 and the hunger has gone and I’m sleeping great.

Maybe I’ll introduce another quarter tablet after my next blood tests but I’ll just wait and see.

I was on thyroid medication and self treating as my numbers were always low but not enough to treat. I was t feeling great at all and GP said to come off to get baseline which I did but on testing again after 8 weeks numbers still within range although at the bottom with all thyroid symptoms returned.

So I’ve decided to go back on T3 again but now I’m feeling foggy and just odd on taking just 18.75mg. I can’t explain it just moody, odd. Could T3 just not be agreeing with me? I’m due to do a stool test and with chronic constipation due to thyroid couldn’t hold off from going back on much longer.

For me 18.75mcg would be too much just 6 days in. I’ve been on it since October and I’m still on 10mcg.

I know what you mean about feeling moody. I’m never like that, I’m always calm and my moods are always very stable but when I introduced T3 too quickly I was getting angry over nothing and crying at adverts on tv! That’s gone too now that I’m taking it much more gradually.

I had thought it was quick to act and quick to come out of your system but then I read about it taking time to get into your cells. Not sure if I understand any of that part though.
