Hi folks I’d dearly like some advice on T3 treatment. I’ve been on levo for around 6 years and I’m also a type 1 diabetic so both are auto immune disorders.
I am going to have a private blood test to have a thorough check as I’m not sure I trust the TSH only test.
As well as taking 150mg of thyroxine I have been on sertraline for anxiety and depression for nearly 3 years.
I’ve been reading that t3 medication can also treat some forms of depression (I’m guessing hormonally linked or the type that is caused by the chemical imbalances due to hypothyroidism)
It seems insane to me that I am on an SSRI when it’s probably T3 I need?!
Also am alway tired, only lose weight or maintain weight by exercising and hardly eating. I am starting a gluten free diet as I am now informed that this is a no brainer and I religiously take my thyroxine an hour before consuming anything else in the morning.
Has anyone had any success stories being on a T3 medication? I know the NHS are contesting it’s value currently.
Sorry for the long post! Hope you haven’t fallen asleep 😊

Well, I can tell you this from personal experience. I was on Zoloft, which is the brand for Sertraline, then celexa and then Wellbutrin. I had anxiety attacks and fits of sadness that would come from nowhere. I kept getting higher and higher doses but never felt better. The anti-depressants were prescribed right after I had my daughter who is now 16. So I was on them for probably 14-15 years. I was diagnosed with Hashi’s about 5 or so years ago but didn’t start on thyroid meds or LDN until about a year ago. Shortly after I started treatment for my thyroid with NDT, T3, LDN and peptides, I decided to go cold turkey off of the anti-depressants. I felt exactly the same after stopping them, I think it was the lack of thyroid and all that that was making me feel emotional. I know it is not advisable to stop these meds as I did but I am not one to really listen. I definitely don’t suggest it for you or anyone, just giving my experience. But yes, I think at least for me there was a huge correlation between my emotional state and my thyroid and it makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for your reply 😊 the sertraline does help. My anxiety and depression is directly linked to my periods, I suffer from PMDD a severe form of pms. The ssri has definitely improved this. BUT I’m just thinking if my thyroid was supported with other medications - not just thyroxine- I may not need an anti depressant. It’s so frustrating. I’m just going to soldier on and try and feel as good as I can with healthy diet and exercise.
Weirdly the sertraline has given me a huge appetite for alcohol. I’m not the only person who has experienced this! I’ve never craved drink like I do now. I’m not giving in to it though but it’s always a balance. I’m happier on the sertraline but now I crave booze??!! I just want to feel like a normal human 😩
