Thyroid nodule: Treatment for nodules - Thyroid UK
Thyroid nodule
Hi veeroo, usually just treating the cause is a good start. It could be an iodine deficiency or you are becoming hypo and need thyroid hormone. Do you have any ideas? There is a paragraph on nodules in this article.
When a nodule is found the best is to see a very reputable Endo/Dr that will send the patient for sonogram . Once the sonogram is reviewed the patient will be sent for biopsy to confirm if the nodule is cancerous . Most nodules are benign . It's important not to ignore any nodule .
If there is conclusive evidence that the nodule is cancerous the next step is to find a very reputable surgeon who does many thyroid surgeries throughout the year/s and to have a consultation what he recommends . The surgeon might recommend to remove only the side of the thyroid that contains the nodule . Some surgeons are under the belief that if one side has the cancerous nodule that eventually the second side has a big percentage of having cancer sooner or later and it's better to remove all at once both sides of the thyroid . Called thyroidectomy (TT) .
Best Wishes .
