Sorry to be a pain it's my second post , surgery lost my thyroid test results, shocker , but I managed to get my iron and FT4 results I did post some quickly last week literally mins before going down to theatre for an OP they didnt give the ranges though but here are my iron and FT3 gp says iron is fine even though it flagged up ? I wish I could read my own results cos gp just says reduce T3 by half , never listen to gp I come here , safer , if now decided to stop NDT as I didnt ever reach that sweet spot and was beginning to feel ill and lethargic so I now take 75mcg T4 and 18mcg T3 which I source myself and oh my gosh being able to tweak it has made a difference I feel so energetic this week I know it's only the first week but I feel good,

FT3 value 6.5 pmol

Range U 2.89 -4.88

Free T3 442U

IRON /Ferritin

Value 49.3 ug/l range U 10 -204

Serum iron test 42R

Serum ferritin 42R4

Thanks in advance, these results are from last week whilst on 2.5 x 1 grain NDT

Your Ferritin is low, but because it's in range you may not get any help from your GP. Quite why it was flagged I don't know, was there a comment? Were there any other iron results, eg serum iron, or just ferritin?

It's said that for thyroid hormone to work properly (that's our own as well as replacement hormone) ferritin needs to be at least 70, preferably half way through range.

You can help raise your level by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, also liver pate, black pudding, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet

It's not really hard. There's a result and a range. If you are out of range there's a problem. If you are in range then it's where in range that matters - where you feel well.

You have this result:

FT3: 6.5 pmol and Range 2.89 -4.88

So you can see you are well over range. The T3 in your NDT was too much for you and the comment made to reduce T3 was correct, but by how much who knows, it has to be done gradually. But this result is irrelevant now as you've changed to Levo plus T3. You should retest 6 weeks after starting this and see where your levels lie then and how you feel, that will show you if you need to adjust anything.

Thankyou I appreciate that, that's my point gp just said reduce it , take less or just stop T3 altogether and just take Levo , not a hope in hell of that happening, the only comment on iron was " 49" ??? And I love liver i have a small portion twice a week with onion broccoli and carrots yummy , i have brain fog when it comes to ranges it just baffles me then seems so simple when explained, thanks so much

You could maybe increase the amount of liver you have, but don't go above 200g. Nice to see someone say they like liver, most people say "yukkk!" :D
