TPO testing frequency

Hi, T

2 years of auto immune thyrotoxicosis.

Thyroid function being controlled now with low dose of Carbimazole. Saw consultant yesterday - doing fbc and thyroid tests and awaiting results.

Consultant would not do TPO as ' won't have changed in last 15 months'. Really?

Last TPO measure was around 100 down from 400. Surely it's worth doing again?

Thx

TPO isn't the antibody mainly associated with Graves disease, so you probably had a Hashis (autoimmune thyroid disease) hyper swing. Antibodies don't really cause the disease, but are an effect of the destruction of thyroid tissue (and they do fluctuate). Graves is diagnosed by high TRab or TSI ab. Your actual thyroid hormone results are more important (TSH, free T4, free T3).
