Welcome to our forum Readdy

Can you give some background/hstory to your condition, i.e. what have you been diagnosed with i.e. hashimotos or hypothyroidism when etc.

If you'd like to post your most recent results, with the ranges, members could respond.

Do you follow the procedure below when you have blood drawn?

Always have the very earliest appointment, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of levothyroxine and the test and take it afterwards?

Are all your vitamins/minerals optimal - deficiencies can also cause symptoms? i.e. TSH of 1 or lower with Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper part of the ranges.

Do you take levothyroxine with one full glass of water and wait an hour before eating?

Sorry this went in my junk mail I have hypobeen on Levothyroxine for years just had full thyroid profile done my t3 is low

Hav private doc but he is not endocrinologist wants to cut my Levothyroxine from 100mcg to 50 and put me on 1.5 grains of Armour. Don’t know how to take the NDT and when to take the Levothyroxine. Had Adrenal profile my cortisol is high all day/night. Think I need to see a good endocrinologist to fully check my adrenals pituitary and thyroid?

But would to try the natural thyroid if poss? Have fatigue bit depressed. I hav IV therapy which is helping giving high levels of b12/magnesium/amino acids and take other supplements. I did have high dress for a while due to husband dying then had virus. Any advice would b great thanks june

First of all Readdy, I am very sorry you've lost your husband which would set you back a bit re all the stress of caring for him then funeral arrangements etc.

Some doctors are more knowledgeable than endocrinologists and many of them will not prescribe NDT.

It is worth a trial. 1 gr of NDT is approx 100mcg (in its effect)

I think I'd go along with your doctor's advice. There's not many nowadays who will suggest a trial of NDT or understand about it and that patients many find an improvement as it has more than T4 in it and has been used - in different forms since 1892 - before that we died and it was a long drawn out process.

You can take a combination of T4 and NDT together - i.e. on an empty stomach with one full glass of water. Many find it beneficial to take one hour before breakfast and allow a gap of 24 hours between dose and test. Some prefer a bedtime dose.

Your doctor is reducing your T4 to 50mcg and adding approx 150mcg of hormones of NDT. So he is increasing your overall dose by 100mcg. I'd be apt (and am not medically qualified) to reduce T4 to 50 and add 1 gr NDT and keep and eye on pulse/temp. If either goes too high, reduce dose. You can add 1/4 tablet Armour every two weeks. I think an average dose is about 200 to 250mcg. You might feel much better quite soon. Symptoms and relief of are more reliable than blood test results. The following link may be helpful and it is by an Adviser to TUK, who died but he'd never prescribe levo - only NDT or T3 for thyroid hormone resistant patients.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for reply I was slightly worried about his knowledge of NDT dosing etc so thanks for your input. Is it advisable to take Levo and NDT at same time? I’ve also got high ciortisol levels which is playing havoc with my sleep. I’ve decided to see an endocrinologist to get my adrenals thyroid pituitary all fully checked out🙄the endocrinologist has breen recommended by my doc and is meant to b open minded! 😀this website is invaluable as getting any help otherwise is so difficult

Yes - it's fine to take a combination of thyroid hormones. Always be aware of symptoms and if pulse/temp increase too much, drop to previous dose.
