Update from fridays scare when paramedic suspected afib, went to gp had full blood count and thyroid bloods , anti bodies and vit levels , gp ordered a 24 hour ECG test but says as it didn't show on ecg this morning it may not be that but paroxysmal afib is intermittent so I didn't expect it to show , I asked for T3 and Ft3 to be told even though I'm on NDT those tests aren't necessary as the only thing that matters is my TSH levels ??? I give up !!!!! So I guess I'm having to go to medichecks and get the full panel , when I mentioned I have high anti bodies he said that's irrelevant and suggests a change of diet ?? I eat veg protein fish and fruit I'm 100 % gluten free so what am I supposed to change ? I feel beaten and broken it's a joke I'm chronically ill and he doesn't seem to give a dam , don't know what to do from here to be honest

The phrase "the only thing that matters is my TSH levels ???made me laugh aloud with the ridiculousness of the comment.

So we can agree when we go to doctors with symptoms (that they know none at all) and only look at the TSH and adjust willy/nilly and do not seem to be aware that the 'treatment' of hypo is that all clinical symptoms are to be relieved.

That the FT4 and FT3 have to be in the upper part of the ranges. Our dose is adjusted willy/nilly according to the TSH which is from the pituitary gland when the aim should be a TSH of 1 or lower. If it is low the immediately jump to the conclusion that we've become hyper active. !!!

Your GP's entrenched view of TSH-only testing is so widespread among doctors, and would take so long to change even if student medical training were to change immediately, that I believe all one can do is to treat oneself. Sadly, many cannot afford to do this and have to keep plugging away with the NHS.

In your own case, if you suspect you've gone into AFib again, you really must phone for immediate medical advice or assistance. In the meantime, if you can get the full panel of tests privately, do so, and then ask for further advice from the forum.
