Reaction question?....

Hello lovely people,

I have been taking Tiromel T3 only for about a year now, slowly building up my dose and just before Christmas, I felt like I had turned a corner and was definitely improving. Then suddenly my source of supply disappeared, so I ended up using some Tiromel T3 that was out of date, but had been sealed and kept in the freezer, but I could feel that I was deteriorating again, as I don't think it was as strong as my in date T3. Finally managed to get a different source and ordered some in date Tiromel T3 (dated 2020) and when it arrived I took a smaller dose to ease myself back into it. My god, I was so poorly! I struggle badly with IBS and I was sick & had to keep going to the toilet ( also fainted a couple of times - which I do when I vomit, I now have a nice bruise!) I only thing I ate differently was my new T3, and it was within about half an hour of taking it. Over the next couple of mornings, I only took a half a 25mg tablet, and although I was still ill, I wasn't as bad as the first day. I have then since taken my old out of date stock again, and being fine, but I can feel my weight creeping up already, and I am so exhausted once again.

I am a coeliac and I do have a allergy to milk, but not normally lactose, so not sure if the new Tiromel was stronger, but then I have taken stuff in date most of last year and been fine.

Has anyone else had this reaction? Have they changed the ingredients that anyone knows of? Could it just be a bad batch? Is it worth trying just a quarter tablet? I am just so scared because I feel so ill, and now I am so worried about what's happening to me - just when T3 had finally after about 5 years starting to get me back to me.

All help is gratefully received.

Love Belle xxx

I would suggest that you send a private message to one of the Admins on the forum and ask them if they have heard of your current T3 source and whether or not they are considered to be reliable.

You can find the Admins listed on this page : healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Unfortunately Bellerin, we can be sensitive to the fillers and binders in the product and we wouldn't know until we take it.

Try the following:-

Take one antihistamine tablet one hour before the dose and if you don't have the same bad reaction, it is the fillers/binders. You'd have to change to another make.

Sometimes, things become impossible one way or another when we're trying our best to recover our health.

Thank you - I'll try that, is there an antihistamine you recommend? Does it matter its exactly the same brand as I've had before (same packaging, same packaging inside etc) - just a later expiry date? Sorry for all the questions! :)

I don't think there's a problem doing a trial with the medication. I think the expiry dates you can use after the expiry date. Any antihistamine is fine. This is a past post re medication:-

Thankyou - but I meant, would I be sensitive to the ingredients in exactly the some T3 I had been taking before? Do they change regularly with the fillers, or could it just be a odd batch? Thank you :) - Sorry I am just really scared, I have anxiety issues, and I just thought I had got my Thyroid sorted, and now I'm scared to take my tablets! xx

I understand Bellerin - there's no need to apologise as we want the best results possible.

We're anxious enough but can worry over things that wouldn't have bothered us before hypo. I found levo was awful for me but T3 was wonderful. We just have to take the chance It is easy to say 'try not to worry' but on re-reading your post I note you took a lower dose than usual so it is possible that a 'too low a dose' can give us symptoms due to the lack of an optimum dose.

We cannot win sometimes.

Too low a dose can affect us just as a higher dose can as well. Relax and try to remember that we're only taking a hormone which our body lacks.

Thank you Shaws - very kind words, I really appreciate them :)

If I did do the antihistamine before testing whether I have a reaction to this new batch of tablets, and I do still have a reaction - what does that mean? :) Thank you, and sorry again for the questions xx

Formulation changes are rare. And wouldn't be just for one batch.

However, it is possible that there are slight differences. For example, the precise crystal size of one of the ingredients. Or some impurity or breakdown product present in very tiny amounts.

I have found the most powerful antihistimine to be diphenhydramine HCL (brand name Benedryl), which was one of the meds I used to pre-medicate before chemotherapy 5 years ago, to prevent nausea/vomiting.
