I hate to be a pain but I am just wondering if anyone could give me a list of EVERYTHING I should ask to be included in my blood test please?
I have just had a few choice words with my doctors who reckon that they don’t have my blood results from December 6th? Also I haven’t had any done since last September.
Just Incase they actually do them again what should I ask for. I’m feeling terrible at the moment

You can ask, but it's highly unlikely you'll get them all done! But, if you've already had antibodies tested, and they were positive, you don't need them done again.
So do you have copies of the test results you had done last September ... ? Perhaps your surgery has on-line records - worth checking. You are legally entitled to have copies of all results with ranges
Click on the above link - then click onto ABOUT TESTING to see the companies that send out Home Testing Kits - used by thousands on this Forum for diagnosis and doing the tests not done in the NHS.
Thank you for the link. Lots of info!! Including that Massachusetts, the state I'm in, doesn't allow self testing. I wonder why. I wonder if I have to hop to a neighboring state or something. I wonder what it means that Ulta has worked something out with Massachusetts. Clear as mud!! Google here I come.
Hi Marz I was on the phone earlier pretty upset and she kept telling me that if there was anything wrong I would have heard from them and said within range a lot
Thanks Marz. I'll send him a PM later. In the states insurance will cover almost any test but the doctor has to justify it in his notes and there is a way to present symptoms to make the process easier. Don't want to bore everyone with unecessary details. Will do so this eve. when I get home.
What they may mean is all your blood results are within ranges, this means nothing in the thyroid world.
This happens to many of us when we are dealing with GP's.
Does your surgery offer an on line service? this means if you sign up for it (you have to request this at reception and take some ID) you can view your medical history, book appointments on line and view your blood results.
I would suggest as others have mentioned arranging for your own private blood tests to be done. Greygoose has given you the list you need.
Medi checks and blue horizon offer this service and some tests can be done via a finger prick test.
Looking at medi checks you will need the Thyroid check UltraVit at £99.00 if you enter THYROIDUK, you should get 10%. However, this one does suggest a venous blood draw so for an extra £25.00 you can visit a hospital on there books, normally BMI, they will tell you which one is nearest for you, or, have a home visit for £59.00.
It's best you book your blood test as early as possible in the morning before 9am and don't have anything to eat and drink water only before the test.
Blue horizon offer the same test, but, as a finger prick so you can do this at home for £99.15 this includes 20% off at the moment. Results are normally 2 working days from sending them off.
It's best to do the test on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday for standard post service. Friday is a no no as your bloods will be sat waiting over the weekend.
Thank you so much, I’m guessing I might have to pay for a test. Not only am I not getting my results BUT my gp surgery were telling me this morning that I hadn’t had blood tests in December, it’s a good thing that I have a letter from the hospital with the date on it which says, I suspect that the thyroid issue is secondary and the issue lies with the pituitary gland so I have drawn bloods today for tests. It’s no wonder some days I feel like I’m going crazy. I have a friend in Spain who a doctor but I think we had crossed wires and what I thought was t3 was just another brand of thyroxine
They treat us like idiots sometimes, and those are the people we are relying on to help us get better.
I would by pass the GP, as its clear they don't think you have anything wrong with you.
Levothyroxine only has T4 and the GP's think its a magic pill and will suit everyone, not. if you don't get on with it, your told its something else or fobbed off with anti depressants, which is a no no when you clearly have thyroid issues.
If you want T3/T4 you either have to try NDT which you will have to purchase yourself, or, T3 on its own (Liothyronine). They can be purchased privately as can Levo.
You will have to monitor yourself whilst taking it, but, I prefer this, rather than being stuck on T4 and begging with my GP for an increase, been there, done that, and not very successfully I may add.
They love to make it difficult. Never keen on an informed patient
But you are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
You need to take in photo ID to register
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
NHS will only test thyroid antibodies once
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Tbh I have always taken my thyroxine as normal before the blood tests. I know better now thanks to you guys. although tbh they are probably all saying here she comes quick hide at my gps now I have gotten worse over the years with all kinds of things and it wasn’t until I was too ill to work that I had time to ask/ research what’s going. Just been blindly taking note and more meds no wonder the NHS is on its backside.
Seriously though this morning what I was trying to ask was, what did they actually test for? The answer was if anything was not in range you would have heard. Grrrtrr that not what I am
asking
Anyway thanks again to all of you that have answered. Its really helpful and yes your right about another thing too the antidepressants the prescription is in the drawer I couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore so I just took it and didn’t even go for the pills 💊
Thanks SlowDragon I will do I have to admit that I have felt a little better taking my Levo 100mg at night and the rest early morning (no breakfast) I don’t think it will do me any harm I have put on a stone despite waking 40mins to town every day and 40min back going to the gym and knocking my nightly glass of vino on the head. No wonder I’m being a misery right?
I don’t actually know what they were testing exactly, I know it looks like I have had a bit of a laissez faire attitude but it was t that I was trying to run my own business, never having time for anything in the end I couldn’t get out of bed, started putting on weight and being ‘depressed’ this is not like me at all. Anyway made enough excuses, except for I think that my gp’s surgery has at best been lazy with my health care. I have never been told to take what vitamins.
I see now that perhaps shouldn’t have been number one on my list of priorities.
Thanks again trying gluten free now it’s only been a week or so
Many of us learnt the hard way that the only way to make full recovery is to get hold of all previous blood tests. See exactly what has been tested and especially what hasn't been tested
Getting FULL Thyroid including FT3 and both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies plus vitamin testing is essential
NHS rarely tests FT3 or TG antibodies or vitamins
Hence almost 100,000 members on here
Hi TH. Saw Marz's note. I am on the East Coast (Atlanta) and will be home early evening. Will PM you as I also have some hints about how to approach the doctors to write orders for the tests you need.
