just wondered , a Mum said child diagnosed hypo in summer, they were due to have bloods and hospital missed Thyroid anti bodies off . Re scheduled for this last week, hospital cancelled because child had a cold ? Has another appointment and Mum is worried how having a cold/runny nose might effect results . It has confused me surely this wouldn't affect results, just didn't want to say if I am wrong , our kids often are ill/ snotty colds most of winter then hayfever most of summer. If they couldn't have blood tests until clear they aren't having blood tests.

Asking for a fellow DS mum
Well, that might just be a standard reaction and blood testing protocols, because I can see that testing antibodies would be affected by a cold. But, testing TSH, FT4 or FT3 could be. Because in the presence of a virus, conversion of T4 to T3 is down-graded, meaning that the FT4 would be higher, the FT3 lower and the TSH possibly higher than when healthy. This is a normal, protective reaction, but won't give you helpful results with a blood test.
so would antibodies be affected?
As I said, I can't imagine that they would. But, I'm really not an expert, and the hospital might know something that I don't.
It's ok , in your first response you said "because I can see that testing antibodies would be affected by a cold" it threw me at first then I thought maybe you missed the 't, maybe it's a typo
Oh yes! Sorry! I'm always doing that. It's like my keyboard doesn't like negatives. 🤣🤣🤣
