I’m losing massive chunks of hair

I was on cytomel for about 4 years, recently I went to an endo who took me off of it nov. I didn’t notice my extra hair shedding , I work extra hours in a retail store during nov & December no time to pay attention to myself.

I didn’t notice my hair was extremely thin & had no idea I had massive bald spots in the back of my head under my longer hair until 3 weeks ago when I went to wear a ponytail. I was shocked. The past 3 weeks I have been losing more hair or just aware of it. I thought it was stress and as a result I assumed it was alopecia. My GP said all my levels are normal

My dermatologist diagnosed me with Alopecia & gave me shots on my scale as a treatment. The past few days after internet research I am now starting to believe it’s a T3 issue. My T3 can’t be a normal level even though my GP said it’s in normal range.

I decided to go back on my .5mcg dose without a Dr’s suggestion hoping to regulate myself and hope my hair will grow back. Has anyone had this type of reaction?

I hope my hair stops falling out and will grow back :)))))

Do you always get the earliest possible appointment re your hypothyroidism? Do you allow a gap of 24 hours between the last dose and the test and take it afterwards? If not your results will be skewed as the doctors only take notice of the TSH and T4. They don't take action if they are somewhere within the ranges.

Hair problems can be due to hypothyroidism or the lack of thyroid hormones. Alopecia is another autoimmune disease.

Maybe the following will be helpful.

We need a TSH of 1 or lower and Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper part of the ranges. Not lower. Dose of thyroid hormones have to be gradually increased to get to an optimum dose which is TSH of 1 or lower and Free T4 and Free T3 towards the upper part of the ranges.. Also B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate have to be at optimum..

I mwas having a hard time getting Cynomel for a bit, and yes, I noticed more hair fall than there had been, but never big chunks of hair... however, I was only completely off it for about 6 weeks. I had lowered my dose in hopes of not running out prior to that. When I started back to full dose several weeks ago, I noticed that my hair fall had become "normal" again, and not clogging the shower drain after about 2 weeks.
