I am not medically qualified but the combined dose may have been a bit too much inititally. Usually we start on a lower dose which is gradually increased every six weeks until we have symptoms relieved and we feel better.

If you never felt well on synthroid I would take only Armour - which contains all of the necessary hormones and being made from animals' glands are more conducive to the human body than synthetic ones. You can do a direct switch from one to another.

Some of us don't improve on synthetic hormones and NDT has been used, safely, since 1892 onwards up until the introduction of levothyroxine which is T4 alone. It contains all of the hormones a healthy gland would provide.

Also if they take blood tests - these were introduced along with levothyroxine (T4 only) sot NDT may suit you better and it should all depend on how our symptoms are relieved and I will give you a link which may be helpful. This doctor (now deceased) only took one blood test for the initital diagnosis and every two weeks increased dose by 1/4 tablet always keeping and eye on pulse/temp. If either rose too high, drop to previous dose.

B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate should also be optimal.

The following links is by one of our Advisers (deceased) and he only took one blood test for the initital diagnosis and thereafter it was gradually increses (1/4 tablet) every two weeks until symptoms were relieved. Keeping an eye on temp/pulse. If either rose too much, go back to previous dose. The following link by Dr Lowe may also be helpful.

The dose should be taken with one full glass of water.
