Hello iam male with Hashimotos , 173cm high and my weight is 64 kg. Iam taking 75ug T4 but I think due to my cortisol and adrenaline problems, the t4 is working as a antityroid drug(rt3) also my rt3 ist very high. I want to take t3 regularly, but need help how?

How should I take T3 ? splitting over the day? Or only in the morning ? Or night?

How much need a person like me?

Many thanks to replies.

Have you got recent results of thyroid and vitamins?

Absolutely Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Always get actual results and ranges. Post results when you have them, members can advise

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working and need to be optimal BEFORE considering T3

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten. Dairy is second most common.

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

As you have Hashimoto's are you on strictly gluten free diet? If not you likely need to try this BEFORE trying any T3

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first Or buy one online for under £20 (just to rule it out)

rT3 is not anti-thyroid. It will be high if your FT4 is too high. In which case you reduce your levo and add a little T3. But, if your rT3 is high for other reasons, taking T3 will not lower it. T3 in and of itself is not a 'cure' for high rT3, you need to find what's causing it. :)
