As breast implants affect the endocrine system I am horrified at the number of women whom are suffering with this illness. At the moment the Breast Implant Illness and Healing Support Group has over 1700 women and this number is increasing on a daily basis.
Also, after listening to a Dr whom is researching Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma it has made people aware that although the governing bodies have said that this is a rare illness, the incidents of BIAALCL is increasing. Women whom have had textured implants are at risk of this lymphoma and as yet they are unable to identify what the cause is. They are researching whether it is caused by bacteria on the surface of the implant or whether there is a genetic pre-disposition to this with the bodies immune system. This illness has been known about for a long time yet plastic surgeons have not warned their patients regarding this issue as the risks were thought to be very low. As there has not been any regulation regarding the reporting of this problem it is difficult to say how many women have been affected already. All women whom have textured implants should be aware of this problem as they may well be fine for years but they are playing Russian Roulette with their lives!
