I’m 7yrs diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, and just had my iud copper coil of 9yrs changed to a Mirena ius... but whilst fitting I’ve been told my uterus is now 11-12cm in length instead of the average 7-8cm... anyone else been told this? Or found this after thyroid diagnosis?
I’m worried & not worried if you know what I mean, confused too as ‘fibroids’ was dropped in too.... I’m now waiting for an internal scan appointment for Birmingham Women’s Hospital
Sorry if a bit open

I’ve just had a copper coil for 9yrs and the first 4-5yrs of heavy periods tbh were the only issues, so I’m hoping for them to ease now as I just can cope with feeling sick when it’s my cycle
I’m sorry I can’t comment on your exact query but what I would say is that I had a Mirena coil, promoted by my gp (how naive I was then!) and I absolutely would not have another.
I used a pill for years -no issues, had two healthy children - good pregnancies, labours, no issues, and then had a coil fitted.
I don’t blame the coil for what happened next (I had a thyroid “crash”, was extremely ill and I’m still recovering 18 months later) but i was left with endometriosis caused by severe estrogen dominance. The pain and bleeding was unbelievable (days the lady who had two natural labours) and I would pass out day one of my period with the pain. I also had really bad breast pain, migraines, back pain etc.
I have been self treating with progesterone cream and this seems to being redressing the balance.
Get rid of your iud before it gets any worse. I think the effect of thyroid and the whole HPA axis when you put an iud in the mix is totally underestimated. Just my opinion though 😉
You'll probably find that you have health issues because your body was used to really high levels of copper and you've replaced that with a fake hormone. No one mentioned change in uterus size to me, but I've no idea what size mine is. I became hypo a few years after having my copper 7 removed.
