Why do you need a replacement for soy sauce? Tamari, Japanese soy sauce is gluten free and fermented naturally.

Many people are allergic to soy. That's why soy is in bold in ingredients lists .

My medication says to avoid soy because it can inhibit the uptake of the drug.

Well if your medication says to avoid it then you'll have to follow the instructions.

It comes under goitrogens and is thought to mess with Thyroid function. So lots of people dont use it.. im not fully experienced but theres lots of much better qualified people that can talk more about it.

I’ve been using fish or oyster sauce as a replacement. Slightly thicker consistency but similar salty flavour and it’s available in the supermarket.

I'm fine with tamari, which is made from fermented soy and is also gluten free.

I'd go with coconut aminos, they're lovely :)

Why risk using something that will potentially interfere with endocrine function?

I'm probably not going to make any friends by saying this, but most people seem (wilfully?) ignorant of the incredible impact that diet has on the body and illness. For the people saying that they are fine with tamari, I'd be interested to find out how they know that it is not interfering with thyroid function?

Millions of Japanese people with thyroid conditions use naturally fermented soy sauce daily. Hashimotos is well researched in Japan. If it was a problem then Japanese people would all be avoiding it, that's my reasoning. I could be wrong of course.

The real problem is eating soy flour and undermentioned soy products in large quantities, I believe.

Someone, maybe it was Greygoose recently posted an article about soy affecting people initially after ingestion and then subsequently making no difference at all so maybe search for the post that contains the link?

That makes sense, although people in different countries around the world evolve different gut bacteria in response to the local produce. So my microbiome will be different than someone in Japan and able to digest (or not) different foods. Lactose intolerance being the most obvious example.

True, many Japanese are lactose intolerant.

If you're in the UK then Clearspring brand Tamari is nice. I have Hashimoto’s and Coeliac.
