Picked up 6 years ago in a routine blood test & told I had Hasimotos ( although i had NO symptoms). On 50 mg and yearly blood tests.
For the past year or so I've been having regular night sweats which wake me at least twice nightly , causing me to throw off the duvet and then doze off and wake again 'cos I'm cold. This is just like the menopause but I'm 76.
I sleep very well but hate this disturbed sleep every night.
Is this common?

I will give you some hints to get the best possible result on your next blood test.
50mcg of levothyroxine is a very small starting dose and is usually increased by 25mcg every six weeks until the TSH is 1 or lower.
All blood tests for thyroid hormones have to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the test and take afterwards.
Always get a print-out of your results after each blood test for your own records and post if you have a query.
You are looking to have a TSH of 1 or lower and a Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper part of the ranges. The latter are rarely tested.
Ask GP to test TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.
And also B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.
Get a print-out of your results with the ranges and put them on a new post for comments.
If doctor wont do all of the tests, you can get a private one from one of the recommended labs that do home pin-prick tests. If you decide to do so make sure you are well-hydrated a couple of days before and hands/arms are warm. They are finger pin-prick blood draw.
Most doctors seem to think that a TSH 'anywhere in the range is fine' - it isn't 1 or lower is the aim.
I've recently been having a few mild night sweats and I've found that bio-identical progesterone cream has helped enormously. I was using it once a day in the morning but found that using it at bedtime as well has eliminated them.
The dose they say should be "pea sized". I used to use the tube version and I was never sure if I was using the right amount so I have now gone over to the jar which has a special lid which dispenses the correct amount, and it does actually look like the average sized pea.
Sounds funny but I have had night sweats for approx four years on and off. My GP always put it down to menopause... until I was told by a specialist that I should have b12 injections (supplements did nothing) for mild b12 (bottom end of range) deficiency ... voila! night sweats stopped immediately and now I know when I need a b12 top up, the sweats (and other symptoms) return.
These are the symptoms of hoshimoto I have it also until I had hoshimoto under control I had to heal my gut with autoimmune paleo diet and gut repair program I do stil have autoimmune attacks from Time to time. When I'm under stress. I'm 58
I have diabetes 2 and find if my blood sugar is too high, I can get hot sweats at night.
If you have Hashis. you might find a pre diabetes test useful. I have also used phyto oestrogen, plant based which helped hormone levels. Progesterone levels can be increased by eating high source foods to make the hormone ie sweet potatoes, high, ordinary potatoes, average, and banana average.
